South Korea has declared a period of national mourning for the victims of a crowd surge during Halloween celebrations in the capital Seoul.
President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the narrow alleyway in the Itaewon district where people were trapped and crushed, and at least 151 were killed. Authorities are warning the death toll may rise further, with more victims in critical condition. An investigation is underway into what caused the tragedy.

Updates on the tragedy: apparently, a few people in the front started it, telling the people in the back to push. That’s how this happened. Some news channels have said it’s all the police’s fault, but this is only partially true.

This is heartwrenching. Unnecessary deaths and very young. It's sad. Despite of many people,they did not realized that many are already dying and dead. If only those who have spaces moved a little,esp those on the sides …they could have climbed the stairs, the low decks,..if only the bars and restaurants,accomodated some people for a little while ..if only those playing blaring music have stopped it and made an announcement instead on the gravity of the situation,then these would not have happened. Sadly,the police do not have megaphone w them. But they could have used the audio system of the diff business establishments,etc. They just have to be resourceful.

There should have been a prevention plan and a limit of how many people can come through not only that but it should’ve been done in somewhere spacious, this could’ve been prevented in MANY ways but they didn’t plan ahead of time in what was going to happen.
