All the naysayers in the comment section are completely forgetting the fact that the Lockheed U-2 spyplane was a powered-glider. It did use an internal combustion engine, because that was all that was available at the time. But, stealth technology adds weight and complexity to hide the heat-signature from radar, and Infared. There will always be a trade-off with aircraft design….
Maybe tell celebrities who fly so much it adds up to an average person flying in 500 years to go green
It is not about CO2 used in production, it is about how quickly we discard things. These planes last for 50 years if properly maintained. Our club has bought the first production model ASK21, serial number 21003 back in 1981. It stil flies.

I believe the key issue is the solar power panel conversion rate. Current panel has around 19%, if it can reach 40%, the practicability will be significant.
I think inflations is causing the current situation we already have now, imagine investing $.5000 and getting a return of $.31,500 bi weekly trading crypto,our leaders is not the solution to our problem cause they're the problem. you can't get rid of corruption in a system built on corruption. The best way to survive the current recession and hardship is to spend and invest wisely.
So weight and sun dependent that carrying cargo is impossible. To create lift to do anything useful even with perfect sunny sky's and no rain or gusty wind would require breaking the laws of physics. This is a cash investment sinkhole.

It's a neat idea but there are many obstacles. Being a glider pilot is much harder than being an airplane pilot. It's unlikely this sort of thing could ever work on a mass transport scale. He barely can travel even a small distance currently. Imagine trying to build a commercial business off of something like this. Imagine trying to create a glider with 200 seats that can still take off and land safely using no fossil fuels. Imagine the legal woes and passenger safety concerns. Imagine how hard it would be to find pilots confident and skilled enough to fly these commercially along a route.
It's good to have dreams, but I think we're at least 100 years away from being able to make these kinds of dreams a reality. If they are possible at all. After all, we're talking about mass and gravity.
