i don't know man, i just saw a proper Bow/rapier guy killing it with that weapon combination. well, to be fair that youtube guy is high ranked in some FPS games, so that might explain whe he barely misses a shot.
Rapier can hit multiple targets if they're close together. Personally I love the rapier once you get the evade passive that lower cooldown on hit, you can basically string together crazy evade/attack/dodge/evade combos and move between targets. But I feel you on the ice gauntlet, fire staff, and greataxe being strong choices that will probably be pretty meta
You cant really say bow and rapier isn't as good as IG and greataxes while proceeding to kill IG and great axe 1 after the other while outnumbered using bow rapier 😅
Very good video. Ignore the pve noobs in the comments, they don't know what they're talking about (or they're all playing great axe). I suspect that most of these people haven't even played the game above lvl 10. The game is obviously extremely unbalanced right now. I don't understand why they haven't nerfed great axe yet, it's really weird.
I agree with you when you say that there are some weap combinations that can be better than anothers. HOWEVER, In this game, differently than another MMOs such BDO, I think it definitely depends on your ability to aiming and landing shots with the bow than anything, it also totally depends on you to evade and avoid CC skills, several ppl don't know yet how to avoid it, don't know when to change to a ranged weap or use a evade skill when a mage freeze you under the ice shower. As my perception , the bow is the best ranged damage weap in the game. I saw mages doing around 1.5k 2k dmg crit in comparison of 4k ~ 8k damage crit with bow at lvl 60. I played mage (fire/ice) in the closed and open beta, in the launch I will play with bow and rapier because I know that it will depend exclusively on me to land the shots. I dont like the idea of being easy to hit and hurting less each hit in comparison with bow…. Do you know ChipsFPS on youtube? have you seen this guy playing? He is one of my favorite bow players where i am getting reference to the release… take a look into this video of him playing with bow, see how incredible this weap could be: 【New World】- Bow/Rapier 🏹 PVP – 1vX (Open Beta) .
All of this discussion makes me glad I'm going to be playing far more for the PvE lol It's an interesting discussion though and great points. I want to try all the weapons, but for sure will be starting out with bow & hatchet just because that fits my playstyle most for starting with life skill, gathering, PvE focus. I think the great thing about the game though is it should be a lot easier to swap weapons and attributes around for different parts of the game than a lot of others. With some restriction and cost of course, but It is certainly a lot more versatile than some systems. With new weapons added along the way as well I am sure there will be some re-balance, will be interesting to see how things go, just hoping it all works out enough that everyone has fun no matter what playstyle they choose.
Wanna start with saying idk why you're getting downvoted so much.. I guess you're just spitting fax that people don't want to hear.
I see your point with the rapier. Honestly, the fire staff has better melee potential than the rapier does if specced right lol.
The only argument I see for the rapier is if you want to run a musket or bow and want to have good damage scaling on your melee.
I think the bow has a little more potential than you give it credit for because of scattershot. If played right, you can put all 5 arrows into one target and all being auto crit. This will dish out some insane damage, but you need to practice this one shot A LOT to pull it off. In general, yeah fire staff and ice gauntlet are just better right now. I agree man.
Have you played bow late game with the right stats and effects aka jagged. Bow scales really hard late game and does a shit ton of damage. Also I have a friend that plays bow rapier and he 1 v 3/5 and has yet to lose a duel. His youtube is kazza
you're totally wrong, rapier has technicality, maneuverability, physical dmg, consistency of attacks and fluidity, shorter cooldowns. ice gauntlet is not these things. you can argue about the slows on one hand vs movement on the other, but the movement aspect is 100% controllable, the slows are not 100% controllable on the ice gauntlet for the fact that your own skill vs the opponent's skill is involved.
your point about the great axe is that it's the highest damaging weapon, it has control-type of CCs, and is easy to use. that's why it's the most picked. but i would still argue that rapier is better overall because of the aforementioned criteria. great axe 40 seconds cd vs rapier 10 seconds cd (hyperbole) is a huge factor.
i have a feeling you're putting more weight into your own skill at pvp in the game than you should. all the weapons in the game are good, there are some debates about the great axe being too strong, but we can look at other areas as to why it might be strong. if we look at heavy armor and great axe, we can see why the great axe can be strong. so nerfing heavy armor might in turn balance great axe appropriately.
The bow and the rapier great weapons and I have killed many people with them. The only problem that you are having is the bow and the rapier together are a shit combo.
I mained Bow Rapier in open beta. Using my Rapier as mobility and my Bow as my damage. I can safely say, Bow and Rapier is a REALLY strong combo, as long as you can hit your shots. Looking at the talents you've used in the video and your playstyle, I can see why you've decided to give them up. Rapier should be used as extra mobility, block and dodge. (Fleche, Riposte, Evade) NOT your main damage dealer. The Bow should be used as your main source of damage and CC, if you spec into staggers that is. (Evade shot, Poison shot, Penatrating shot).
You want to be a more backfooted style of play with the bow and rapier, kiting, using cover and leading enemies into your crosshair.
I can say IG Rapier is viable due to it being easier to land shots with IG, however the damage output doesn't compare at ALL to the Bow.
Really good video and i am kind of agree with ur opinion. I really love bow+rapier but i am confused after watching ur video. Is Bow+rapier better than FS+IG in 1vs1?(i know u said in general it's 1vs multi players in this game). And for lv60, dose bow have much higher dmg than GA/FS? And the last question, if i choose meta weapons, i really worry about they will get nerfed after i spent lots of time on leveling their skills.
Pretty much my same concerns I have with single target weapons. The aoe weapons not only do aoe, but also SIMILAR damage to std (AND CC as you said in the video) If that’s the case, why use std over aoe weapons?
Now I’m still going to probably commit with my rapier and musket, hopefully a breakthrough strategy/technique (or buff) will happen in the process.
Personally I love to play off meta and beat out meta players it's incredibly satisfying to me. I'm not sure what will be meta or not as I never played the beta but I am considering Rapier/IG
It should also be taken into consideration that the more op builds are on the chopping block for nerfs just like with any other mmo, and what I am seeing more than anything in the Youtube videos is Great Axe/X (usually hatchet), which leads me to believe it will be nerfed first round no doubt, the game will be flooded with GA builds is my prediction
Right now rapier is one of those weapons where you can outplay anyone 1v1 if you play it PERFECTLY. If you only lack a little, other weapons are more forgiving. It is sad that the weapon is lacking aoe and CC. Other weapons are just more well rounded packages.
I feel the dex based weapons all have their issues right now, for different reasons. Right now STR is most versatile and filles their roles best and INT weapons are the way to go dps wise … or lifestaff if you are a shitbag 😉
EDIT: rapier brings good dmg buff to expeditions and solid dmg, yet I think its strength is its mobility and mostly evasiveness.

I respect that and been thinking about that or ice gauntlet/hatchet

aren't the rapier and the bow the highest single target melee and ranged dps weapons?

Don't be snitching on my fire/ice!

Lol damn this video triggered a lot of people. Sorry some people don't like your favorite weapon 😂

I've been debating on
whether to play rapier/bow or rapier/IG and after watching this I'm 100% going Rapier/IG.

Wanting to pick weps based on ‘meta’ is pathetic. I’ll shit on u meta bois 1v1 with my bow rapier 😝😂

Dislikes on your vids are brutal dude. Keep it up you’ll get out of the funk.
so you will just play whatever is strongest instead of what is fun in a game? ok then :/

How’s GA and IG going? Got some pvp highlights?
