Gotham Knights Review

Gotham Knights acts as more of a cautionary tale than the logical next step for this storied universe.

Batman is dead. With so few words, Gotham Knights is instantly intriguing. What does Gotham look like without its Dark Knight perched over the rotten city? For Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood, their leader’s sudden demise leaves a massive hole in the heart of Gotham, and asks them to step out from his shadow. Although the new guard fares well from a narrative standpoint, the gameplay systems built to serve their 30-hour campaign to reclaim Gotham let the team down.

  1. gamespot gave ascent a 6 , rpgs are a fanstastic form of video game as are narrative based games , the dismal inability to make that distinction and the repeated attempts to compare this game to the arkham series just shows how broken mainstream game journalism is

  2. Despite not actually being a "Games-as-a-Service" game it sure feels like one. Everything about this game screams Marvel's Avengers, which was a travesty on so many levels, and I don't exclude the combat. The combat here looks just like Marvel's Avengers; it has that same janky look, spongy enemies, and no real counter system. I honestly feel like it was going to be a GaaS game and somewhere along the line and for whatever reason they scaled back that idea but enough of it was built around it that it still looks/feels that way.

  3. This review is total video game snobbery. I’m several hours in and LOVING it. Sure it’s not perfect, they could have spent more time on it (which I wish they did) but it is NOT a 5. If you crank up the difficulty to your ability and really pay attention to the system and play well, it’s super fun and challenging – keeps you on your toes. The co-op is where it shines too! Let go of the Arkham comparison nonsense, and also making such a big deal out of what video games ‘need to be’ these days for them to get a good enough score, and just enjoy it for what it is, and I’m sure you will also have a blast. I’d give it a solid 7, if not a 7.5 if it grows from here at all. Boo @ this Reviewer. Try it for yourself, whenever!

  4. Ugh. I pre-ordered this, because I've liked All the Gotham games.
    – I feel betrayed. The combat is so gross… Everything feels so slow. Riding on the bat cycle, you see these streamers like you're going fast, but then it takes minutes to catch pedestrian vehicles. And as you pass them, they're going slow as shyt.

  5. WB Montreal are incompetent and need to be dropped as a developer for superhero games. Waste of 7 years. Another developer could have made 1 or even 2 solid Batman video games in that time frame

  6. There's an obsession with making games longer and full of "stuff" without realising that actually players would prefer a shorter, tighter game with a more progressive challenge that doesn't just mean scaling enemy health bars.

  7. Seriously? 4? I bought the game yesterday even after seeing ign’s 5 and this review, and I couldn’t put it down. It’s not perfect, but it’s tons of fun and definitely deserves more love than it’s getting from some sites. I’d recommend anyone that was excited about it to take its flaws into account and still give it a try for themselves.

  8. Ign have completed failed to give this game a proper review. I spent 15 hours playing this game with a friend so far and it’s honestly a blast. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THAT THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE OPINION OF ONE MAN who does not share that same likes and dislikes as you do, set your expectations for Gotham Knights correctly. It’s going to be updated it’s going to be improved, if cyberpunk managed to turn around a difficult release this game can too.

  9. No 60fps mode in a modern game is a game killer by itself. If you add the other negative points to this then this game is in trouble. It happened to saints row reboot too. Greed over quality.

  10. dang, he went IN during that last minute. The loot and crafting system does seem out of place. A system like that is absolutely NOT a necessity for a good game, but it's seems like some people think it is.

  11. Hopefully this marks the death of the "games as a service trend", sure they have their audience but stop trying to make every game like that! I dont mind some elements of it, but the repetitive grind for loot is just not for me

  12. It's a fun game Batgirl is really cute and interesting great graphics runs really smooth on PS5. I think the combat is good could be a better but overall it's good. I think the enemies needed to be more varied and the combat could have been a bit more flashy but it's a still a good game worth 70 dollars well that depends on your disposable income. To much crying from PC users and the 30 fps get over yourselves console is king that's just how it is.

  13. The upgrade is like injustice 2 where you can pick 3 different mask, boots and colors and so on. At first, it looks cheap, because your just starting out with nothing, while progressing through the game you see how much progress you made. The game is not that bad I give it a 8/9
