10 Creepy Advancements in Soft Robotics

Soft robotics is a sort of sub-genre of robotics where the machines are not made of stiff metals and plastic but soft, pliable materials that mimic flesh and muscle, although not always in the human sense. Some of what has been created under that banner are exceptionally weird.

  1. Not to be nit-picky, or anything, but I’m going to be nit-picky. The thumbnail for this video is a photo not of a spider, but that of a harvestman (also known as a “daddy longlegs”). They are arachnids of the family Opiliones and more closely related to scorpions, despite being totally harmless.

  2. Just a quick word … Data is an android, not a robot. He is sentient, intelligent beyond compare. Robots, as we know them, aren’t self aware. Yes, Data is a fictional character, but the possibility of creating an android is in the future. We can thank Star Trek for cell phones, tablets, and many more modern inventions. The inventors site Star Trek as their inspiration. There are many humans who have lost their livelihood to the current generation of robots. A.I. Is in our future. We need to take care or we’ll be deemed redundant and obsolete. Remember the Terminator. Could be our future! I enjoyed your presentation and always watch for your new postings. I subscribed to your channel after the very first time I watched a video. You’re enlightened in your thinking and I enjoy that. Carry on and prosper. Or should I say live long and prosper? 🖖🏻 🇨🇦

  3. Of all the weirdest things they could have picked to sort of re-animate, they chose a bloody spider that most of the world harbours an instinctive fear of on some level. Can you imagine if that was ever used for some practical application involving patients? It would simply be known as the theatre of screams 😕
