Snape was a means to an end, the same thing Dumbledore thinks of everyone.
I thought Snape was barred from Defense Against the Dark Arts because the job is cursed to last only one year and Dumbledore needs Snape around?
As far snape not getting the DADA position I think that had to do with the fact that the position was cursed nobody lasted longer then 1 year and Dumbledore needed Snape to act as his spy so he couldn't risk anything happening to him that would prevent him from doing that. Even in year 6 when he finally became the defense professor it was because Dumbledore needed slughorn in the castle to get his memory of the horcruxes so he has to free up the potions position and I don't think there was any other position that Snape could teach as well as the fact that he needed Snape close by to kill him when draco failed.
Thumbnail looks like theorist thumbnail. Thought it was movie theory video
So Dumbledore is just a big ol' troll, and not the bathroom kind…
"You disgust me." Yeah, I don't think that opinion ever changed, but I also believe that as Snape did feel remorse, Dumbledore took every opportunity to grind the regret deeper. I always felt he (Snape) was left in the potions position because that's where his best friend beat him in school.
PLSSLS i love this video. Snape is my favorite character
4:27, was there any of that before?
4:54, Dumbledore being Dumbledore he was asking for something in exchange because he was playing the long game to defeat Voldemort.
5:39, interesting. Would you say then that Dumbledore never liked Harry either? Since he withholds information from him quite often
9:00, I assumed that was because Snape was too valuable to lose given the jinx on the job
9:45, that’s a genuine slap in the face to every half-competent person in the world not just Snape
10:18, according to Hagrid, no one but Lockhart applied since everyone else was convinced that the job was jinxed
11:01, werewolves aren’t in control of their actions when they’re in wolf form.
11:16, unless you kill him and use your mastery of potions to make the poison completely untraceable
12:20, Snape is too valuable for Dumbledore to lose him
the snape impression is giving potter puppet pals <3
I think Dumbledore never made Snape the defense against the dark arts teacher until he asked Snape to kill him in book 6 the Half Blood Prince at the beginning of that year because he knew the job was jinxed and wanted to keep Snape close due to his affiliation with Voldemort and due to the fact that Dumbledore knew that Voldemort would eventually return. He didn't want snape to fall victim to the curse and lose a teacher and an important ally once Voldemort returned.
To be fair, Snape was constantly taking BS points off of students and probably was probably a big reason why Slytherine had an 8 year winning streak lol
Dolores Umbridge question: I was watching Deathly Hallows part 1 and when the trio is looking for the locket in the ministry, there's a scene with Dolores as the judge in a hearing. She has the locket around her neck but has a patronus of a cat sitting next to her and defending off dementors held above the court. How is it possible she can produce a patronus with the locket on (or in general for that matter) when it requires the most happy thought to conjure a patronus?
There is a really simple explanation for Dumbledore’s refusal to give Snape the job of until the half-blood prince : the job has been cursed by Voldemort when Dumbledore refused to give it to him, and Dumbledore didn’t want to lose Snape to this curse !
Come on you can’t use any of this for evidence because of the fact that there was a one-year curse put upon the position
Jay, sorry, but I think your Snape impression sounds more like squidward 😂🤣😂
5:00 the other other other thing:
the contract was: Dumbledore keeps lily safe (eg alive) and Snape serves him no matter what.
Lily's dead, soooo Dumbledore failed to uphold his part of the agreement yet Snape serves/has to serve him.
Sure,as Snape had already switched sides he was kinda at the short end and couldn't really do much as to stick with Dumbledore, but still kinda rude move tbh
(Short end cause Dumbledore had two things at hand against him: telling the ministry he's not a spy anymore, sending his as to Askaban or slipping the death eaters Snapes betrayal, pretty much signing his death sentence)
Wasn't there a curse on the position of D.at.D? One of the reasons that Dumbledore wont put Snape there.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of, "But J.K. Rowling say's Snape is all grey!'' comments on this and a long list of things Snape has done that are unforgivable. It's actually really sad when you think of the life Snape had really. Outright abused and neglected as a boy, bullied as a teenager, manipulated by the two most powerful wizards of the age against each other, and finally his lack of friendship with just about everyone. Both the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters had little to no trust in him with maybe a few exceptions for Lucius, Narcissa, and McGonagall. I do on a certain level believe at least Lucius and McGonagall considered Snape to be their friend. (at least on paper anyway.)
Dumbledore may have enjoyed messing with snape but I think he did like them as there was supposed to be a curse on the dark arts position as anyone who had that post left after one year so Dumbledore wasn't able to give Snape the dark arts post other wise he would have to have left after the year and Dumbledore didn't wish for Snape to leave that was why snape wasn't able to be in the post
Slughorn WAS NOT an option until Voldemort shows himself. Slughorn goes back as a teacher bc Hogwarts is with Dumbledore the savest place in England. Thats the only argument for Slughorn.
"L8R, SK8TERS!"
Dumbledore didn't seem to like anyone, only what they do.
Dumbledorr knew the DADA position was jinxed so why would he give it to snape when he was still so valuable
Well, atleast we know that DUmbledore was a pro-level troll
Alan rickman made snape likable. Change my mind.
