A historic community built by formerly enslaved people has become a ghost town after a majority of its residents took voluntary home buyouts offered by a South African petrochemical company looking to expand its plant. The residents thought they were getting fair deals for their homes but some now feel Sasol’s voluntary property purchase program amounted to land theft. In Episode 3 of Overlooked, VICE heads to Mossville, Louisiana, following a human rights attorney investigating what really took place and how Mossville residents were financially and emotionally impacted by Sasol’s deal.

you leave, you never sell, you give em hell
that lady got $40k bc there was 5 owners of the property and it got split up evenly with her getting 33%, if she owned 100% of the property she would have got the full 120k, so whats the problem? what is the company supposed to do, over pay by $400k for the property so all 5 people get 120k?? um no.
I mean yall showed the paperwork..
Predominately black community in Louisiana and the police chief is STILL white
I wonder if any relations to Randy Moss , he obviously got a insane family lineage background if I’m not mistaken
Start making money off of an original African American community what's wrong with people why would they do that Money is that's why that's the number one sin I think
This African American community flourished what happened White liberals got greedy
I find it very intriguing that the people of the community and that one white guy had two very different perspectives about this situation like mfs are so evil and greedy that they can’t even admit they messed up and did wrong and I bet he received some money hell probably more then some of the people that sold their property and had to demolish their houses man this world is crazy and sad!!!
“Nobody was forcing anyone to move”
They ENGINEERED IT START TO FINISH
The chemical company was racist, everything was black owned in that town..They couldn't have that
this happens all the time as well just look at what they did to Black Wall Street
Please have a look at who owns SASOL and then make your judgements. My thoughts and prayers go out to the local residents (coming from a (unfortunate) south african local.
Ps. Enjoy the rabbit hole
This is just fucked up! That company deserves to be sued! Those people deserve justice!
So if your financing was in order it didn’t work
Whas it just me or did that Police Officer got a nice amount of money to keep his eyes closed and mouth shut ? also kinda saying it whas fair to offer less money than it's worth it, i want to see what he would do if it was his community. steam removes Bacteria and Viruses but not 100%. i hope this video gets many many views and i hope some top tier dog can help this community out, but if it's goverment building or partner, be prepared to be put against the wall with your back.
Another example of $ overcoming minority… Color me suprised.
Does this girls nose look fake or is it just me?
Vice documentaries use to be so much better
Whos is the white lady who hosts this?🙏🏼 I like her style …any other docs?
well im glad the Bald ass police juror thinks there's no pollution! What does he know? (about anything at all)
Just like the whites have done to my ancestral lands 🤔
classic capitalism
Garbage documentary. Few facts, mostly hearsay.
Pushing the racism narrative is so demeaning, yet sadly typical of Vice and their ilk, and just cheapens the struggles of countless communities that go through these types of issues. These types of situations happen all over the country to all types of people, whether it be the chemical coast of TX, love canal, the numerous contaminated sites left over from the US nuclear weapons program, releases like kingston Fossil in Tennessee, or open burning in military bases all over. Government conspires with businesses to pull them in and enrich themselves through taxes and the occasional fine while the communities unlucky enough to be caught in the crosshairs suffer the consequences.
