Seems obvious Babcock Ranch eco design needs to be replicated in the rebuild of the barrier islands of Sanibel and the rest!
Thank you 60 minutes for coming down. People outside of our area have no idea to the extent of destruction we received from this storm.
Mother Nature flushes the toilet sometimes
Babcock ranch style and away from the shore
And I thought bioengineering was a conspiracy theory…
There house isn’t even that bad wtf
Great report we can all learn from.
For some reason this piece pales in comparison to the recent Ukraine piece that 60 minutes recently did – I'm sorry that these multi-millionaires on Sanibel Island lost their multi million dollar paradise homes, but it's nothing compared to the dad that lost his entire family to Russian gunfire. It's possessions people – at least you're alive and you likely have an insurance policy.
DeSantis said to shoot looters!! The true looters are Real estate developers looking to buy all the damage areas for the LOW-LOW!! 😆😆
Ok the the shout about the the shore towns ! They should not be there . In case of a Hurricane! It’s not the insurance fault . They should not be there !!
What a surprise we live in a hurricane-prone area and got a actual hurricane
why can't states like Fl have an extra rainy-day tax so they can rebuild without federal tax money. D-Snotis is already begging for federal socialist funding
This is why you shouldn't build on a sandbar. People with a beach house, a pool, having pool parties. Rich people. I feel no sympathy for them.
Confused why they always share the millionaire family that financially will be just fine compared to those that are poverty stricken and will not bounce back without help it’s ridiculous they will be just fine it’s sad but you will be alright you have life and family this was always a risk you knew that!
Median home price there is
$1,193,485
I guess the trees are stronger at babcock. Those are down in punta gorda
That insurance dude looks like a real shyster. Always trying to avoid paying people.
Hurricanes Ida and Katrina did the same or worse damage.
yes the insurance cost a lot of $$$$ and it is only going to go up,maybe even to the point of not being able to insure coastal land in the near future. but that is global warming for you
They didn't get the nasty part of the storm real wind would rip them solar panels apart and good luck charging all them electric cars the only thing that saved them was being so high above sea level Lehigh didn't get it that bad either everyone wanna move out there to lmfao
It’s not just insurance premiums it’s the construction materials for homes in a subtropical area. Wood, plastic, insulation foam, screws and nails are subject to wind and water. When wind pushes rain sideways homes aren’t built to withstand. Winds above 90mph either.
Florida homes should be built off the ground, 5 ft minimum and made of cement, steel and concrete. It’s just how homes throughout the Caribbean are made
I know it's hard. I live in Charlotte County, which was also hit hard by Ian. My house is more inland and is completely liveable. But it's time for us to realize, the barrier islands need to go back to be the buffers they were intended to be. It's time to restore the wetlands. Of course, the tourism and real estate industry doesn't want to hear this, nor will they allow it to happen.
the wealthy who live on the coast in any state have insurance and financial backing to overcome this. What the media should be focusing on are the tens of thousands of homeless people who lived in mobile homes that are flooded out, regular low price homes that are probably under or uninsured. We need to provide them with the money to rebuild or relocate not some rich entitled people who live on the water where nothing should have been built in the first place.
insurance companies with trillions in assets, panic when they have to pay out a tiny bit..its disgusting..
Babcock Ranch did NOT take the same hit other parts received. Proof is in the palms; they looked perfect. There’s nothing left of most palms in Cape Coral, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, and other places. The fronds are stripped away. Nice pushing of an agenda, 60 Minutes.
An insurer who openly discussed the " no way no how" BS lingo that is going to take precedent before discussing reimbursement… if any. Litigation over what happened first and accountability by the insurance company is going to be loooooooong and tedious. We all know who wins here and then will sell policies later in life like nothing happened. THEY need to be regulated and decommissioned. BS!,,,,
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why didn't they have flood insurance? For a lot of people..especially in Cape Coral that did get flooded…we're told they weren't in a flood zone. FEMA redraw the flood zone maps after Charlie and a lot of the Cape were no longer on the map. I know…I lived there. And yes it's expensive. If you're told you're not in a flood zone with the prices they're asking on a chance, and you're a working class person…You're not going to get flood insurance.
IAN WAS HAARP AND GEOENGINEERING CHARGED
Insurance is a huge scam. They word your policy in a way to NOT cover the need. They literally try to find ways to have your policy not cover
And people keep moving by the beach
At least they are alive
Well not to state the obvious… You live in a hurricane state and when a big one hits….
“Act’s surprised by damage” 🤔🤔🤔
I’m sorry but most of these people voted red, for the Cheeto man, an open climate change denier. What’s going to happen to Florida when insurance companies won’t bail millionaires out for living in climate change disaster areas? I hope all these beach house properties plummet and we are forced to keep costal land costal to help decrease the disaster of these inevitable storms on more inland homes and communities.
Don't rebuild. Turn Sanibel into a trash dump!
I know it's a sad loss and people lost their lives. but really? Shocked? These people know hurricanes hit there nearly every year. They are millionaires that are insured. I'm more worried about the low /middle income people that lost everything and won't ever get their lives back.
BS video. This whole area is so much worse than 60 BS shows or that guys mapping. Try like a good 100 miles North and south and 5+ miles inland of endless torn up houses. The people seemed to handle it better than any other states goverment could ever
