I’m suprised your not a 2 million yet man. Your content is clean, respectful, and easy to consume. You have a way with words that’s so great and thank you!
This was nowhere near as dark or sad as you made it out to be
jokes on you. i cant get any sadder
Ya hear that YouTube!?!?! Take it up with your God!!!!
PLEASE Wendigoon read house of leaves it is right up your alley if you like weird transformative horror it is like something you would cover on this channel in book form
Clowning. Ha. Ha. Yes. Very relatable. Man its 8 minutes in and the story is already touching too close to my heart
I've read this book I love it. It helped me through a hard time
Sounds like yozo is a complete sociopath
Thanks. Got something out of it.
Maybe I'm in the minority here but honest opinion here is I didn't get anything out of this story. Unlike Paradise Post or I Have No Mouth Yet I Must Scream, to me there's no interest concept or message I would remember out of this story. Just a purely sad story.
alternative title: Autism existed in Japan in the last century.
Bro, if somebody put you in a hole for more than 300 hours then that one is not good people
I didn’t know Floyd Collins had a Youtube channel!
I remember telling my high school English teacher that this book is one of my favourites and getting sent to guidance council
So glad you made a video on one of my favorite novels
I've got this paused at your disclaimer and like… honestly, I'm gonna take the out while I've got it. Violence, especially against women and kids, has been getting to me pretty bad lately and for my own mental health I'm gonna take the L. Thanks for including the trigger warning, Wendigoon– leaving a like for ya <3
Darkest story I ever read was just the N word 65,234 times.
Junji ito is trash, manga just has low standards
Wendigoon legs
I really want to read this!
It's really nice that you have sponsors so you can do videos like this.
Your compassion for the author is admirable 💙
My heart stopped when you said "he tied himself to his mistress, named Tomie, and threw themselves into a river" not only is Tomie glaringly obvious as a Junji Ito classic, but something almost similar happens in Uzumaki with a pair of lovers that tie themselves together and live in the ocean….
Im almost sorry to have heard this story but I'm glad I did. Its sobering. Hearing a story of suffering from the person himself… its a truly unique type of horror, one that I cannot just separate myself from, where there are no monsters or ghouls, just people and their capacity to hurt and be hurt.
This is a great video and I'm actually happy to be made aware of this work. But I'm perplexed by it, I don't see the creepiness or horror that you seem to take from this story. I see a tragedy perhaps, but it was the original ending of the story that left me perplexed even after listening to you explain the life of the author and Ito's interpretation.
I don't see what Dazai ment by the ending for the bar owner to still see Yozo as an angel. That is to say I don't understand what she is saying at all about Yozo.
… how did you make a story like this have a sweet ending…
Oof PAYPAL honey, reject the social credit system my friends (I know this was recorded and posted before paypal decided they wanted less money by acting like the ccp)
That last line- I’m not even kidding I sobbed.
CONTENT WARNING!!!
you will sad 🙁
This video really brought the autistics out of the woodworks, and as an autistic myself, I am very glad. This state of being surrounded by people yet feeling so desperately alone, like dying of thirst stranded in the ocean, is so hard to bear, and it means the world to me whenever I see that I am not alone, that there are people out there going through it, too.
congrats on getting onto trending my mane😎😎😎
I've been watching since your mystery staircase in the Woods video keep up the good work you've only ever improved
Hey man thanks for the warning.
About 10 minutes into this video, I went out and bought the Manga. I then read it all in a day, and wow that ending man, I wish I never even started it to begin with. How depressing but also lovely, just really a contrasting feeling I’m left with. I’m all the sadder for it, but also happier too.
Welp, this book is going in my collection.
The most ironic part about all of this is Junji Ito himself. The guy comes off as super soft spoken and polite, you’d never think he could create such haunting pieces. On the other hand though, perhaps that is why he understands No Longer Human the best. Who knows.
This book is ass tbh, omg his disconnection to society and loneliness is soo sad bitch please he was just a pure loser who made this garbage excuse of a book, he had every facility a man could ever want yet he fucked his life
My man wendigoon is trending 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The whole thing of Yozo and in some Fashion Dazai being a people pleaser in his youth just…hit so close to home for me. acting like a clown, being caught pretending and afraid of telling people what they dont want to hear, not gonna lie it really almost made me cry how painfully i can relate to that, its painful but at the same time a big relief that im not alone in feeling this way
One of the best as well. A tragic artist who shouldn't have died so young, but while Dazai was here he had an amazing outlet as an author. The Setting Sun and No Longer Human are two of the greatest pieces of literature I've ever read. No Longer Human, as cold as it can be, is such a challenging look at humanity that somehow rounds itself out with plenty of empathy by the very end. The Setting Sun is less cold, but it is certainly still very sad. More or less a heavy yet heartfelt drama, especially when standing next to the tragedy of No Longer Human.
The feeling of being completely separated and alien to humanity not understanding why people are so cruel or distrustful is a great way to sum up the social life of some autistic people. After you have been betrayed and made fun of behind your back due to your innocence you start to really have a hard time trusting and being around people. That coupled with the depression that is more likely to occur for Autistic people, it really makes sense how some one can become so emotionless and cold. Essentially becoming less than human due to letting the environment around you destroy you.
Try to get a copy of Dogra Magra. It's another book that prods at the mind a lot, but not in the same way as No Longer Human.
Mans thought he’d be demonetized and ended up on trending. Legend.
So, this story is somehow in all it's darkness, incredibly relatable to a lot of people, and this is all speculation on my end, but I think the point of junji not only rewriting the story but inserting Dazai as a character is to show how much Ito sees the story in himself. I interpreted it as Yozo (Ito) speaking to Dazai, showing that he sees him, they live life through the same lens. The irony of the main character being terrified of being seen through his mask, being a story that makes others feel seen and represented is so powerful I can't even come up with words other than "wow".
Definitely an interesting and dark read. Another Graphic Novel/ Comic to read at your own peril is "Crossed" by Garth Ennis.
I also highly recommend "Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk, "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, "120 Days in Sodom" by Marquis De Sade, "The Mysterious Stranger" by Mark Twain, "The Painted Bird" by Jerzy Kosinski, and "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo.
Music- wise, there's all kinds of levels of dark and twisted music out there to varying degrees of creativity and skill, but there is one album that I cannot stop listening to, it's by a band called Bell Witch and the album is titled "Mirror Reaper". It's a single 3-act song that's over an hour long about the untimely death of their bandmate from Cancer- related Heart Failure, by far one of the most heavy, epic, and somber pieces of music written in our modern time that will send your mind into a pit of wonder and sadness/ despair. It's amazing and I highly, highly recommend it.
If only I could be as handsome as Wendigoon.
Man this was so powerful
When I received the book, I wanted to savor its contents, so I read even the translator's notes. I will never forget that line "In a superb epilogue the only witness testifies, "He was an angel", and we are suddenly made to realize the incompleteness of Yozo's portrait of himself. In the way most men fail to see their own cruelty, Yozo had not noticed his gentleness and his capacity for love"
Dazai himself wrote that epilogue in what I assume to be trying to show how Yozo completely "fooled" the people around him into thinking he is kind, but for the translator of the book to see it as proof of how kind Yozo could be without him knowing……..man
