CORRECTION: Missed the Cadre Fireblade in the Tau box set – he's lurking in with the fire warriors. Makes it a slightly better deal than I said in the video!
Or $280NZD!! Thats 140 quid!
I have about 2,800 pts in death guard at the moment and have already purchased one box. The second box is actually fairly tempting because buying the box is actually cheaper than buying the individual PM and Poxwalkers boxes (at least in the states).
The Space Wolf one is just disrespectful. Intercessors and the Lieutenant are nice, but the invictor warsuit seems out of place and the hounds of morkai are just insulting to put in there.
One thing about the GSC box is that its also useful for Necromunda – GSC has an entry under the Book of Ruin, and in the Book of the Outlands (which introduces vehicles) the main vehicles used are the Wolfquad, Ridgerunner and Goliath. Get the GSC box and a box of Jackals, and you should have enough minis to build quite a few options for a gang, either in the Underhive or in the Outlands.
The only other stuff you would really need would be a Genestealer familar, but that's what eBay is for, right?
Death Company Intercessors exist… So not all Death Company is locked to first born.
love that this video was uploaded right when I need it
GW could salvage a lot of those space marine combat patrols and their useless repulsors if they just sold the gladiator upgrade sprue on its own.
tzangors are next to useless in game so enjoy your god awful 500 points
What you say about the death guard is what I have been saying for ages
I guess I lucked out. I ordered the tyranids box while already having a tervigon model at home (cause I like how he looked.)
Can't wait for the Astra Militarum combat patrol with these new models and new codex.
I just enjoy painting minis and would like to play one day. But then when I see a box with 30 poxwalkers when they have other cool minis I'm like nevermind! I like the admech and orks ones, having "cool" and varying units in a box is a win for me
I’m starting a deathwatch army that’s core is mostly firstborn. Should I go for the DA box set or the normal space marine one 🤔
To fellow space marine players: you shouldn't care about what it says on the outside of the box, just buy what fits your army needs or what you want.
I commend you for being so positive, and spreading that enthusiasm. I love warhammer, but the amount of negativity a lot of channels and Facebook pages create doesn't really relieve any stress like a hobby is best for. Keep it up!
only recently got 2 custodes combat patrols to help flesh out my sisters of silence army and start a regular custodes army
Tzaangors were introduced into 40k very shortly after they came into AoS. I dont think it is fair to call it a port, I think the design intention was for them to always be a dual system kit. The Mutalith is the only true port over from AoS
So glad I got 2 of the old Start Collecting Chaos Space Marines boxes in preparation for the new codex dropping, knowing the box would go away for a by-then still unrevealed combat patrol. The value was just too good.
Honestly wtf was GW thinking putting that many poxwalkers in the box when Death Guard rarley use more than 5-10. Ironically the rest of CSM need that many cultists, but GW currently jacked the price up for Chaos Cultists from $15 for 5 to $60 for 10.
I definitely think the deathwatch start collecting was better that the deathwatch combat patrols
CP tyranids it's pretty boring, toooooooo much gants
The old space wolves box was perfect. New one is dogshit
I really like the Combat Patrol and Start Collecting Boxes.
Normally I'm playing Astra Militarum or Ultramarines, but 40k is so much more.
This sets allow you to have small forces of every race with a solid discount, which allows you to add diversity to your painting experience.
"Great for… non-Deathwing or Ravenwing Dark Angels."
…Do those armies even exist?
The GSC combat patrol is excellent, especially if you already have the old start collecting and the patriarch box (which was in shadow throne). Only thing you really don't want dupes of with GSC is characters as they can only take of each per detachment. If you have all three of these, the only character that is duplicated is the magus but you have the male and female sculpts so is kind of worth it for collection purposes. The only things you're really getting duplicates of are neophytes and acolytes and they're such a core unit that's only a good thing.
Interesting vid but I think you may be over complicating their intentions. In my games shop we play games with ONLY the models included in the combat patrol box. My choice is the Space Wolves but we have regular players with combat patrols ranging from the ubiquitous Ultramarines, Blood Angels Death Watch, Orks (my second patrol box) Tyranids, Necrons and several more. Armies are not always balanced and we line up by random choice using a simple token from a bag done by the organiser (store owner). Tonight my SW fought bravely against the odds almost overcoming the dastardly Eldar. The games tend to be completed in a couple of hours and rarely are they an outright slaughter. If someone intends to build a 5,000 point army they will already know their faction and buying the Combat Patrol box set is probably not the best option to form the basis. We also use these CP sets in a modified (slightly) games of Kill Zone often with pitched battles to the end. For beginners especially any of these CP boxes are a great way to start without having to pore over reams of rules and battle point calculations to get the maximum value. Instead they offer a relatively cheap and fun entry into the hobby. None of our models are going to win the Golden Demon award but it is interesting how quickly the players either repaint their original set or buy a new one to paint up with improved skills.
The fucks up with the resolution?
i was quite happy with the dg one, shite load of zombies, typhus and added BLOATLORDS and dshroud to start with
Amazon sells alot of these for $125 instead of $150 in the states. Not sure why.
Not sure if it's been commented already or not, but the Tyranids Combat Patrol actually comes with 36 Termagants, not 30. Each gant kit comes with 12 and a ripper swarm.
There are actually death company intercessors, primaris blood angels came and passed
I bought the deathguard box set and it IS kind of boring. Like i wouldve like a a few fewer poxwalkers and just one more different unit. Just to make it more interesting. But im glad to hear it was a good deal compared to some of the other patrols. Also for the record same problem with the thousand sons. But thousand sons only have like 3-4 models anyway. (If u dont include demons). I would love to see more thousand sons themed troops.
When i get a combat patrol i wanna get some of the weird and unique units.
Of note regarding the orks: The deff dread is also missing options. It comes with 4 klaws, 2 big shootas, 2 rokkit launchas, 2 kmb's, and only 1 skorcha. There is also nothing to properly mount the ranged options to the upper arms nicely, so wou will have to do at least a bit of kitbashing. Which you will need to get used to anyways since you are stuck with 2 identical looking mobs of boyz. (The nobz look great tho. I kitbashed all my favourite weapon options onto these nobz). And while it is quite a bit of work to do so, the new boyz can be kitbashed with parts from the old boyz, stormboyz, beast snagga boyz etc with a bit of effort, and their more dynamic poses look very nice sprinkled throughout an ork army.
The Killdakka Warband seems to be missing, or is that a different kind of box?
The thousand sons box makes me want to throw up.
It's worth getting 2 Necron boxes imo. Doom scythe and Night scythe. 6 Tomb Blades. 10 Deathmarks and 10 Immortals. 2 duplicate overlords, 1 of which you could sell on if you really want to but you could easily field both.
Not necessarily the best army, no destroyers etc, but if you want the models it's a good box. And easily paired with the recuit / command edition etc.
i thought you got 36 termagaunts in the tyranid box?
The Aeldari Combat Patrol is an OK starter. The Wraithlord has been in EVERY SINGLE ELDAR BOX over the last few years, so it's a hard sell to people who already play Eldar. Guardians are a theoretical core choice, but no one plays guardians anymore. 3×5 Rangers are not only meta but the standard, if you want shruiken firepower you go for Avengers. Guardians are simply too expensive for objective chav and as throw away units, but dont do enough for their points cost, they are mediocre at range, horrible in melee and go down as easily as guardsmen, there is REALLY no point to take them. Jetbikes are fairly decent and a strong and versatile unit, but many people dont play them due to how tricky they are to play. It's a decent box, but not a good one. Should have AT least replaced the Wraithlord with a Wave Serpent.
The main reason for so many termigaunts in the tyranid box is because that's how you get a minimum size ripper squad.
I will say that the genaric SM box is (in my opinion) a great add on if you bought the 2 player box. I used the impousor to mount the 5 assault intersesors and captain and it made for a nice quick list that was fun to play
Building a ravager is nightmarish enough, magnetising one is probably possible, but not something Id recommend if you're just getting into Dark Eldar.
just 3D print them
Very helpful vid, ty sir!
remember when you got sets like this for £50
Ork combat patrol was great for me, only Boyz were duplicated, and you can never have enough boys, also bought the Christmas box
As someone who's only interested in painting, I found the genestealer box to be the best value. I'd love to have some space marines but I find it hard to justify over other models. If only the Ork models were a little newer.
I have never bought a combat patrol in my life, Only Start Collecting Tau, Start Collecting Thousand Sons, 3x Ravenwing Battleforce, and a Tau battleforce from 3rd edition.
I do like how this new Tau box compares to the old ones I bought, especially the 3rd edition one which had Fire warriors Kroot Gun Drones, Crisis suits and Trees IIRC.
