Dr. Kreeft is a professor in the field of Philosophy, and teaches at Boston College and the King’s College in New York.   6. The way in which these men have the ability to delve into such a vast array of literature and pull concepts and bring them into conversation is quite masterful and I must say I’m a bit envious. 😅😅

  9. I found the conversation interesting until about half way. Then realised it had become cyclical only reinforcing/repeating its intent regarding faith.
    "The good illusion is better than nothing." Why? What about no illusion? By it's very nature religion is earth bound. We look out in hope god looks in. Joni Mitchell wrote: "we are stardust we are golden. And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden."
    To me human creation resides right there in the first line. We come from the universe. And we'll return to it.
    And as always with human (religious)faith we put ourselves forward and center above any other living thing. The arrogance here and self importance is remarkable and flawed. Probably destructive too.
    I think the use of Hedonism in the title is misleading as well. It suggests reckless abandon if you are secular. Non believing.
    So often in the discussion 'absolutes' are used to confirm or shut off a different path other than faith. The suggestion, perhaps, humans cannot be ethical or moral without a higher guidance – again suggests we become incompetent without faith: a kind of anxious arrogance. A fear should we contemplate another way. Often is the case western religion excuses itself from responsibility once questioned. Yet demands absolute adherence to its needs, like a petulant child who refuses to grow up.
    There is a Peter Pan quality to it's philosophy that is at once charming, glorious, enchanting and full of wisdom and learning. It is restricting too, somewhat cloying and overbearing – in that it won't let humans fly the nest – leave home. And take responsibility for their adulthood.
    I'm not sure, but it feels like: don't leave home without me or I'll wither and die. And if that is true, what and who are we holding on to?

  19. All ism's are religions catholisim, Muslim, buddhism, atheism the only two differences between all of them and athisem is that athisem had no god or gods and thus athisem steals all it morals from the other religions.

  21. Dr. Peterson seems to be doing increasingly less listening to his guests and more of his own talking very recently. I would have liked to have heard more from Dr. Kreeft. I know very little about him.

  22. At 51 mins. Yes, the religious leader in my community kept sexual abuse of children quiet (me being on of the children) so as to "protect" the community.
    No courage. No integrity. Complete betrayal. Complete cowardice, on his part.

    20:58 Isn't that exactly what the Woke proposed against Charles Murray? And if so, to who's ethical concern should science be handmaiden?
    22:35 The Mephistophelian Credo: "Non existence is better than existence." Why is it wrong? Every time it is uttered by Dr Peterson it's implied that it's wrong, but never clearly refuted. And no, proving that existence is good does not prove that non existence is not better.

    1:46:50 "We are also responsible for everything everyone else do." Isn't that EXACTLY an argument for theocracy or totalitarianism? If you are responsible for everyone else you better make sure they don't err (or sin or however you wanna put it) and just make sure that everybody behaves properly by any means necessary.

  43. Had Dr. Kreeft as a teacher at Boston College. The man is a miniature St. Thomas Aquinas. Notice how his answers are as profound as Dr. Peterson's, but crisper, cleaner, and full of confidence in truth.

  45. 9:25 Dr. Peter Kreeft [DPK]: "I think that is the psychological reason why pagan polytheism died and Abrahamic monotheism triumphed. We need 'one great love' to become 'one great person'. You can't integrate your personality around multiple … greatest goods."

    I think DPK conflates the personality of an individual with the multiple "personalities" which comprise a pagan polytheism. It is not beyond the pale for an adult, competent, educated individual, even in one of the early pagan societies, to favor one or another of the pantheon of the Gods of their times.

    That is, one can worship Mars and Venus to the extent that one chooses. Monotheism, to me, is more an acknowledgement that it seems right that there be 'One God to rule them all', to borrow from Tolkien.

  49. What a great introduction to Dr. Peter Kreeft. I can't wait to read one of his 80 books (Incredible). Incredibly humble man, reminds me to follow men and women who do not proclaim they have all the answers. Humility.
