By "global" do they mean all servers everywhere? So a guy on one server takes "Steve" and no other server, be it in NA, Europe, etc. can take that name?
As an EU player im not too happy about this.

How many charachters can you create, say you want to reserve two names? Do you need to download game before you can log in?

Great now everyone has to login to the EU servers at release to save their character name. EPIC FAIL AGS
EU servers will be sht after day one. Because the servers will fill and a few hours later more than half of the population will leave to their own servers and leave the rest of EU with half servers forcing merges really early
how does cross-world company work? if you make your character to EU to get name for it.. and also make company to get name.. how are you planning to get that company name to U.S…
This is horrendous; every significant name will be taken before anyone outside of the EU can play (unless they want to hop onto EU servers). Never in over 20 years of playing MMOs have I ever known a reputable, AAA MMO to launch with global name locks.
So all the staggered launch is for nothing … everyone will flood the EU servers. Talking about misfire ….
Amazon deserves some love for that clarification and fixing the issue with the company name too <3
Wished they expanded on what a short amount of time constitutes? 3 hrs? 6 hrs?
This makes me happy i'm not too fussy about character names and i'm not making the company i'm joining so i can get some much needed sleep preparing for the marathon of new world
Yo Demon what server and faction are you going to play on? Going hard like 15 hour days.
why the fk are they locking it globally ? They would have to check the name from a shared database, and the database have to sync every time a person make a new character. That's a terrible performance from a technical perspective. I think there might be a miscommunication between the dev and the community people.
I am so ready to go out there and farm those materials.

I may not be remembering correctly from beta launch days, but I thought you can go through the entire character creation process before you entered the queue. Wish I paid closer attention to that now.
Are cosmetics account related too ? Hope they are not character related
