When it comes to mysteries of science, even the experts can be stymied sometimes. And then, with a little contemplation and testing, a simple solution can present itself.

I've never lost a sock. Is that actually a thing that happens?
I think all the lost socks are in the Bermuda Triangle.
SWEET – Dr Karl got a mention. He is an Australian icon of answering science questions… fun fact – he has that disorder where he cannot recognice faces until the owner of the face talks, aka Prosopagnosia.
So much Australian content today – Parkes telescope, Dr Karl, wombats.
Is it just me, or does this video jump cut between edits/takes every few seconds, or is it time compressed with the same effect? Makes it unwatchable to me.
I hate to ask but how in the dr frankenstein do you balance dead flamingoes any way?
Wow. A Dr Karl reference.
I feel so weirded out by the fact that I want to laugh so hard at a video in which scientists are haunted by their own microwave-reheated lunches. xD
Once George Carlin posited that when we die we get back everything we lost in life. Which of course involves all the odd socks. I imagine it also means plenty of pens and loose change.
I say that's fair. I'm quite looking forward to the return of both my virginity and sanity.
2. Triggered alot of italians
I don't mind the use of jump cuts but come on.
Has anyone looked into the health effects of the 1 second burst of the 2.4 Ghz particles released in #9 from opening a microwave early?
@ 2.44 I learnt trigonometry for FIVE YRS and not once have I ever used it in my life, aaaarrrrgggghhhhh
Many 'mysteries' have simple explanations.
Who tf is snapping their spaghetti? It comes in the correct length.
I use sock rings to avoid losing socks.
The thing about socks that I've been saying for years is, who counts the dirty socks they put into the washer? Why blame the dryer when you may have accidentally kicked a sock under the bed or dropped it behind the dresser.
A pause or two now and again would be much appreciated. Might be too much editing or something.
That's Dr Karl Kruzelnicki. He's an Australian icon and all around bang up guy
On the children's show Arthur, the missing sock mystery is explained in that the world economy is kept in balance by dogs who trade in the Lost Sock Exchange.

I'm folding clothes in a laundromat and I hear the last story. Guess who's double checking to match all the socks.
I break spaghetti in half without extra bits every week with no problem ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
So someone had the job of standing up dead flamingos for a few days…. For science!
The socks answer was very unsatisfying ๐คจ
It's OK, I still believe in sock trolls, sneaky bastards need clothes too… have you ever seen one naked?
"What's going on in a Wombat's butt?"

You just boil the water and put the full noodles in, no snapping needed! They will go soft enough to push in with your stirring spoon almost immediately, give em a mix, set the burner to low, and then set a timer for the al dented cook time (possibly listed as just the cook time) taste one about a minute before it's supposed to be done. Then when it's done. Then a minute later. If it tastes just on the edge of being done strain the water, turn off the burner, put the noodles back in the pot. If it tastes done do the same but set the colander, noodles still inside, into the empty pot. This will stop it from over cooking when you wait to finish and serve, while still keeping it warm enough for long enough.
Spaghetti? Wait…. I have needed to do that trick and I was a bit confused…. I used this exact method of breaking the dried noodles in order to catch the 'third bits' into a small cooking cup. There was no 'third bits'.
โWho are we to argue with Samsungโs scientists?โ Simon clearly didnโt have a Galaxy in the past. ๐คฃ
I loose socks because my cat is a kleptomaniac and no matter how secure my hamper is she will figure out a way to get in there and take what she wants.
Losing socks, I figure, is simply getting one sock in a load of laundry. You don't find a match, and the other shows up in the laundry next week. You don't find a match for that one either.
"what's going on in a wombat's butt" lmao now I can die happy. ๐
No, sock are in mated pairs. They mate in the dryer, whereupon the female sock devours the male, and lint is the offspring. ๐
Murphy's Law… I work under O'Toole's law that states " Murphy was an optimist "
Iโve heard that a lot of socks are mysteriously lost in the Bermuda Triangle.
Just bend pasta in half its easy and doesnt send bits flying!
99% of lost socks are due to people failing to check the dryer thoroughly when taking out their clothes. I've never lost a sock in my life because I actually reach in and probe around with my hand (I've had plenty of socks stick to the "ceiling" of the dryer and in the corner, out of eye-view, due to static electricity). This is also evident the amount of times I was drying my clothes in a public laundromat and always coming across a lone sock from a previous customer.
I have to say I really hate the abrupt endings
Where can I get one of those strawberry-laden button downs at 4:54? ๐ ๐
So let me get this right, there are people whoโs job was to balance dead flamingos on one leg? That is one hell of a conversion starter
