FBI issues warning as mail theft-related check fraud on the rise



Check fraud is increasing and a lot of that fraud is being enabled through mail theft. The FBI says suspicious activity reports related to check fraud have nearly doubled from 2021 to 2023.

  1. Why doesn’t the postal service put security cameras inside their operations, inside mail delivery vehicles and mailboxes? They charge enough money to afford it! I NEVER use USPS I use FedEx signature required with tracking.

  3. They are also breaking into curbside postal collection mailboxes and curbside residential boxes with outgoing mail or are not checked daily. Check washing or modifications are an older technique requiring a wash recipe as opposed to opening credit with victim's personal identifying information and committing identity theft online. Check washing is considered a lower level skill other than having an effective wash recipe. Commonly involved with methamphetamine abusers. Just read a book called Dealing with Burglary and Home Invasion Robbery, which covers this topic and provides crime deterrents, police response, training and liability of self defense.
