I’d like to make observation… it’s kinda odd to me that the missing 411 map and the map for limestone in United States is oddly close… if you use the red and white map from google search. The reason is is odd is because limestone is known to make pockets of air in the landscape and it dissolves and moves much easier than other materials so much so that it’s been known to create sink holes up to 600 ft deep and it’s porous so very unique slithers of empty space can be produced with very little shifting of the earths crust. That being said is it possible that these hotspots are really just minute sink holes that open in the earths crust even as small as 15ft could entrap someone and suffocate them within minutes to which no one would ever hear from them again. One just opened days ago at Benton park lake that was over 50ft that changed a city planners opinion on a structure that was to be built… just something to look into????

The reason they would have been breaking cover and distance when encountering an enemy is like any other time they do such thing… they were surprised. In the story, the giant moved faster than they thought it could and due to it's size they were not ready to face something that large. When a larger thing is challenging you one needs to add more space between you and it because it's arms and legs are longer and strides are farther. So throw in they were thinking normal people sized enemies (if enemies there at all 1st group could be lost or something) and this big thing that can cover more ground in half the time you can size alone moving way faster than you thought it should be able to, you get a fight or flight situation. That part could be totally true the giant knows they are coming because it lives there and can hear, smell etc when things are new entering its area. Not to mention he already had a visit that day. If you know anyone who was there, they will tell you much like Vietnam and other places there are tunnels and caves networked together all over and you do not always see then until you are right there next to it. In the US it is hard to picture but other places caves often are all dug out and been used for thousands of years. The locals know where they go and what lives there we do not. Big death traps and you bet they used the system to pop up and disappear on our guys. Following them down a hole in the ground is stupid no one maps them so yeah, totally something could jump out at you from a hole you were not aware of. No one expects a 15' spear toting giant! How large/long a spear could a 15' person have? Way long I bet compared to normal sized men. You expect maybe a few guys with guns or an IDE something like that. Also there are more dangerous areas for being ambushed than others and if you know there is something large in the area you would be more aware of the area you are in and it's disadvantages. No one expected this thus the situation where they were not defensive as they could have been if they had been warned. As far as what type of helo was used… I doubt they paid attention as much to that as they did the giant and the babysitters. Likely they would recall it incorrectly. It is not like it was there requisitioned equipment they used for years. Not like a car they used to own more like a vehicle that a friend drove by them in once. The Army primarily used the Chinook in Afghanistan not a the Air Force. Also with the number of special warfare teams operating throughout Afghanistan at the time it is very possible for basically a transport pilot to confuse them. You have to understand that these teams went out of their way to look like the locals from a distance. They weren't big Army so after a while they began to look alike. The pilot's mission was the cargo not necessarily the personnel.
