  1. But if the driver had to get out to open the trailer doors he had to see the deceased or the deceased had to see him before the driver actually backed into the dock. Drivers normally put on flashers when backing to communicate movement

  2. •••The light is automatically green. You dont get a green light unless your done getting loaded•••so how’d he get a green light then walk back?? Did he pull out then walk back without setting the brakes?? ONCE AGAIN, I keep hearing “he got a green light to back up” IT DONT WORK LIKE THAT. You don’t get a geeen light to back up. It’s already green when you pull up!

  3. I’m having trouble believing the green light theory. Green light means dock is open and Trailer is loaded. When you approach the dock you have to look at the door number before backing into it and by doing that you see the dock door empty. I pull reefer and sometimes they tell me to park three feet from the door with doors closed and they come out and we both go back there and open doors they check the trailer then you back to the dock. The math is mathing in this case though.

  4. Why would a person be behind at that truck that close to a dock. When you get to a delivery point and they give you a door to back into and the light is green that means you can back in. That trailed is probably 53 ft long, how can a person not see that trailer backing in that dock spot plus the driver must have been moving pretty slow. Prayers and condolences to his family.

  5. I’m the last person to say anything but what are you doing between the dock and the back of a trailer – this is what I don’t understand. You can’t see the trailer backing up and what are you doing there anyway! I don’t get it!

  6. Condolences. But, we as professional trucker drivers know the driver can't see you directly behind the truck….??? Who stands in front of a dock ( in a blind spot ) while a truck is backing??? Common sense tells you right there that there is more to this.

  7. I believe 2024 or 2023 or so around there a man in UPS dockworker in Atlanta died the same way when a truck was trying to bump the dock man between the dock and the trailer and let’s just say it was a mess from what my friends were telling me who worked there..

  8. I can understand how this happened. I've witnessed people walking behind my trailer while I was backing up. Some people no longer pay attention to their surroundings. I think we need some backup cameras on these trucks. I'm planning to buy some cameras for my truck to provide 360 coverage.

  9. There could be multiple reasons why he was standing between the dock and his trailer:

    Sweeping out his trailer

    Sliding tandems

Possibly getting his BOL from a dock employee

Securing his load before he closes his doors. I’ve seen people pull away from the dock a few feet so it provides clearance to close the doors, especially if you have swing doors and not a roll-up/down door.

He may have forgotten to set his parking brake or trailer brake and still had the gear in reverse.

Every Walmart/Sams Club DC, you are required to detach your tractor from your trailer while in a door being loaded/unloaded. I ran dedicated for Walmart, there are no exceptions. If you do not detach they do not step foot onto your trailer. And they’ll give you a glad-hand lock to prevent you from hooking back up.

When I would do multiple drops at Walmart or Sam’s, the trailer is pre-loaded according to stops. I would have to get inside the trailer to confirm the correct freight was being removed.

Every Walmart and Sam’s trailer have ROLL-UP/DOWN doors. Why?

So the drivers and store employees can watch the trailer being closed/opened while standing outside of the trailer.

Stay safe out there and take the extra precautions to prevent unnecessary disasters. All it takes is a few seconds and your life is changed forever.

  11. when i was teaching truck driving school the one main thing i told my students is to always keep their head on a swivel even at a loading dock because you are working around heavy equipment,, slip into a blind spot could spell death or serious injury ,, like i told my students while backing into a dock ,, bring it back in small movements,, line it up & bring it back couple feet ,stop look & if everything is clear bring it back again a half dozen feet, stop & look,, if everything ok bring it back ,, what it does it gives you peace of mind that you didnt hit anything also it gives anybody standing in the way a chance to move to a safe spot ,, hell i've jumped under parked trailers to get out of the way,, i also tell students when pulling away from a dock,,, pull forward about 4 to 6 feet , get out & walk back to the rear of the trailer look inside & make sure nothing is left or freight is secured plus as you are walking back look under the trailer to make sure your not dragging anything,, I cant say why this man was caught between the dock & trailer but i can say if these procedures before mentioned would have taken this man probably be alive to day,,,,,,,

  12. OK lets say he was helping spot the backing driver to prevent his truck from being hit, but somehow lost sight of the driver in his mirror. Then the driver thought he was clear but didnt get out to look. then dragged the guy back to the dock.
