Sam. Why don't you wear spikes? You can by them and fit them on almost any shose, I wore them on my visit last winter (New Year) 2 weeks of no slipping or falling.

So far it has been an extremely unusual winter in Russia. It is very warm: the temperatures rise higher than 0 degrees frequently. Therefore it is very slippery, since the melted snow freezes overnight. And it is true even deep into Siberia, like Tomsk and Novosibirsk regions.

You should get some spikes that you can strap to your shoes for walking on ice. You can order something from Cimkiz or Due North for about $20 so you don't fall. I have some spikes I strap to my boots from living in the mountains of North California and they work great.
They should have a law that makes house owners responsible for keeping the walks non-slippery. And the city for public side walks. Here in Sweden they put salt and/or sand on sidewalks.

Getiing a foreigner a SIM card requires to go through a lenghty process, recently described in his latest live stream, procedure set by a new law.
That makes it very hard to visit Russia within 30 days, without having a SIM card, trying to get one and
then go home already being prepered for the next visit or even the final move.
Sad.
Even those foreigners living in Russia having a SIM card have to go through before mid of the year.
Might I ask Sam? How do you currently earn a living, as you mention that YouTube pays a pittance.

The same result is guaranteed for Russia.
The best advice is to withdraw ruble savings from Russian banks and convert to hard currencies such as US Dollars, Euros or Swiss Francs. The current Russian official interest rate of 21 percent, with real rates at 40 percent, provides further proof of what is coming. The collapse can happen suddenly, so don’t delay.

Get some slip on cleats for your shoes. They slip over your existing shoes and have carbide studs on the bottom, then you're good to go with no worries. I used them for 20 years when delivering mail in these conditions and still wear them today when the conditions are like this.
