Danm only 11!? It feels a lot longer the 11 years since I purchased mk8 on the wiiu. I'm so tired of mk8. The dlc was great dont get me wrong but it still feels like the same ol same ol game it always has been since 2014
Night or ac type variants would be awesome!!! The only thing I hope is they don't make it like smash bros with all these characters that don't belong in the mario universe, especially with all the unused mario franchise characters that haven't been used. It's bad enough for what little mk8 has now. I hate her variant but I'd rather have pink gold peach then some Pokémon or jrpg character like fire emblem. It doesn't fit
Yep, can't wait to see more of the next Mario Kart (most likely during the Direct on April 2) not only for the completely new tracks etc. obviously and their potential features, but also the retro stuff as in both the selection and the potential changes due to the 24 racers and so on!
Hadn't even thought of all the lights leading to potential night variants of the tracks. Would love to see that happen like the Animal Crossing track!
We have 8 for retro courses
This almost makes tracks like wario stadium and colosseum more possible for me. With 24 racers, the larger lengths don’t seem as obnoxious. (Although they’d really have to work some magic to redeem stadium.)
I wonder how the possible day/night feature will work. I’m kinda hoping it’s gonna be like the island flyover game in wii sports resort, where you have the option to choose new time of day based on an unlocking mechanic. Whether it’s with how many coins you collect, your placement, or something else, I feel like this game would really benefit with a lot more stuff to unlock.
N64 rainbow road just needs a few extra item box spots and maybe a wider track, then we can finally get jiggy
My hot take: the "Track" they showed off in the trailer isn't an actual race course, it's a hub world. Items and Item Boxes are critical to the identity of Mario Kart. Item Boxes are absent, and drivers aren't holding anything. All drivers also have a neutral facial expression in the trailer, in Mario Kart 8, drivers usually will furl their eyebrows to look more aggressive with other drivers get near them, so we can possibly assume all drivers are being "friendly" in the trailer. From what I can see, there's 18 drivers in the trailer, it's hard to see. Everyone seems to be following Mario, not attempting to overtake. I could be wrong, and there's a high chance that I am, but a different idea nonetheless.
Another possibility is that there are 24-kart race courses that are separate from the regular ones. Those courses could have different item rules, maybe a Boost Gauge mechanic instead of Item Boxes. 24 racers all with items sounds too chaotic.
I hope vehicle customisation will be present and I hope we can customise further by changing to different colours for each vehicle part.
I don’t understand the thought process behind possibly not having retro courses. I don’t get why an optional expansion with remastered tour tracks would suddenly invalidate something that’s regularly been in every game for nearly 20 years. The BCP started nearly 3 years ago now, which used to be the time between Mario Kart games before 8. I doubt Nintendo would pass on the chance to pad out the track selection (especially if they’re expected to keep the standard of 48 courses) as well as easy fan service.
Also discontinuing retro courses right as Toad Factory has a chance would be downright cruel lol
Not all tracks may support 24 players. Retro tracks could stick to a lower a long.
What I believe this game could be about: Open areas.
You have several big maps with different themes that can be accessed in free drive, here for example the desert. You have this big playground that you can either explore, or you can start pre-traced races from a hub area, selecting which layout you want to race on etc… For example there could be a Mario Circuit track layout that focuses on the Mario Bros Circuit area, or one that focuses on somewhere further into the desert, like a Calimari Desert kind of track for example!
Also… That Shine Sprite big orange text seen in the background? It could be the name of one of those big open areas! Driving through it could take you to that open area.
Also, pushing this point further: in MK8 there's the Sunshine Airport track that allow (in the lore) to treavel from one area to the other, and here it's a Sunshine icon… Maybe?
There's pleanty of old tracks not featured in 8 thqt coukd return as retro tracks in 9
i really hope the roster is massive, it would be such a shame to go back to a mk8 sized roster after having the bcp for so long now
The more I think about it, the more I question retros. We are entering a new era of mario kart and there is the possibility they may not include retros at all considering the sheer amount of unique retros present in both 8dx and tour. I would not be surprised if they go the route of an expanded roster with 16-32 nitros not including any potential variants.
I've seen some people mention that space behind Yoshi's diner being pointless, but maybe it could be for another mode, Crash Team Racing had the "CTR" mode where you had to find the letters "C" "T" & "R" in each track and they would be hidden in these "pointless" areas in tracks sometimes because part of the difficulty was collecting it and still managing to come fist in each track and I haven't seen anyone mention this as a possible theory yet.
Another thing is some people theorized that the glowing thing was a Wonder Seed and like you mentioned it isn't, it's some sort of a bag, but maybe each track will have a "Wonder Seed" effect but rather than just being a Wonder Seed each track will get their own themed "Wonder Item" in this case it's a fast food bag delivered outside the Diner Drive Through, and maybe in other stages like say a Bowsers Castle stage it'll be like a Wonder Fire Ball or Rainbow Road could be like a Wonder Shooting Star, that would be cool imo.
I have a feeling that anti-gravity mode will not be in this game, or at least it will not be present in almost any circuit, and that the retro circuits that had anti-gravity sections will no longer have them.
Nighttime variants seems fairly likely—placing the track in a small western desert town like Radiator Springs and not having neon lights and stuff sounds almost criminal!
I wonder if they'll have Retro Tracks as part of a "Classic" game mode, just for 12 players, while all the new tracks are for the main 24-player mode.
The way the lighting is (at least from so far of screen) was slightly flat to me, like, a little bit of a disappoint compared to 8's style. Seeing the lamps made me consider the possibility of different times of day in courses, and I think it would explain this flatter lighting, because it would look a lot more interesting at sun down or night time imo.
I feel like there might be a chance we might not even get any retro tracks, like it could be why we even got the booster course pass
Dude I love your videos so much
I think retro tracks will return, but repeating retros from 8 deluxe would be a massive mistake on nintendo's part (even with 24 racers and a potential gimmick like day and night variants. I also think that the gane can't start off with only 32 tracks, so second-time retros, like Airship Fortress and Banshee Boardwalk, could return, provided in small numbers.
Great video swift
With 24 players I can imagine some of the retros will have their tour variants in the laps maybe because then you won't be crashing into everyone constantly. I do wonder however if you can set the amount of players for each cup or vs mode
Awesome
If we get a reverse cc, then it would help make retro tracks feel incredibly unique since we've never played some of them backwards (aside from the ones in Tour).
"Open world" Forza-like
I predicted a few years back that they ran out of ways to one up themselves and this is the last gimmick that I could see really working.
Hi, when you use Nintendo music in the background, how do you not get copyrighted?
