A Redshank is a type of Buckwheat, which if reference to plants would mean that the Garling family are all related by name to plants.
A Redshank was also a 16th century scottish mercenary, somewhat along the lines of a soldier.
Shamrock works for a structured military organization, thus he's a soldier.
Shanks is a free spirit who does what he wants at a whim, somewhat akin to a mercenary.
Of course there could be zero relation and Shanks could be named after a Redshank which is also a type of bird.
I hope, like Shanks, Shamrock is an immensely powerful swordsman and Haki user, and not a devil fruit user. I also think it would be cool if he used an Iai-like sword style, since he, and his father, have been seen carrying their swords. Kinda like a Vergil from DMC.
