The chemicals also got a lot further than anyone will admit. My later childhood home was on an old farm. Neibor was the farms old owner, he's told me many times that his crops struggled and then they had to close their only well due to chemical contamination from it. And this was dozens of miles away. People with issues both to their health and even their homes stretch far beyond the old superfund site.
Outrage is a good word for this
This Is Called PROGRESS
From niagara falls , this disaster still affects the area. This video didn't explain the whole mess well enough though. The land was sold to the city for a dollar and they were warned not to break ground at the site. Not listening to the advice of hooker they built the houses and the school in the area. I lived close to the for a bit in my childhood. The part about the Manhattan is absolutely true and its contaminated materials are here and in Lewiston ny at a dump called model city. We have tons of soil contaminated with radiam 223
Keep it up people like you is what us remember history
Emminant domain purchase for $1? That's a MASSIVE red flag, as they have to be for market price, so if the land was only worth a dollar…
What on earth was so bad about it?
Thanks for tellin this story
Love Canal sounds like a euphemism 😂😂
My mom grew up here.
She said when it would rain really bad the storm drains would back up and flood the streets.
All of the kids in the neighborhood would go out and play in/splash around in the water lol.
She has had a ton of health problems in her life and she thinks some of them are because of love canal.
I live in Buffalo. 20 minutes away from this. It is horrific. The way the city of Niagara Falls has been mismanaged is completely bonkers. Corruption is rampant around these parts. Classic Rust Belt shit.
Made me think of 3M.
Ecoterrorism at its finest. And as usual the liberal in charge let them get away with it
This one is a little too local
There are so many hazardous waste issues here from long ago
Been there plenty of times. Live less than 15 mins away.
And the U.S. government wonders why the majority of the public doesn't trust them. It's never going to get better, it will continue to get worse, year after year, president after president.
Roughly 2 out of 10 Americans will say they trust the government. It's so ingrained in us that the government is corrupt, that it is impossible to rectify, and our government can only blame themselves for it.
Not only did the city knowingly build a school on a chemical burial site, but they essentially forced the company to sell them the property against their wishes. Hooker Chemicals is far from innocent in this but, to their credit, they refused to sell the property to the city multiple times because they knew that the city was planning to build a school and they did not think this was safe. So eventually the city essentially threatened to take the land from them via eminent domain and gave them no choice but to sell. Which is why Hooker Chemicals eventually sold it for basically nothing ($1) and made them sign a agreement stating Hooker Chemicals wasn't liable – they didn't really want it to be a sale at all and did everything they could to make no money off of it and make it clear they did not condone what was happening. And while modern-day standards differ, Hooker Chemicals did follow all of the laws applicable at the time for how to properly ensure the chemicals stayed contained and were disposed of safely. In my opinion, this is a relatively rare instance where the company isn't really the primary group at fault, the school board in the city are definitely the most irresponsible ones here.
JFK settled the Cuban missile crisis by surrendering to Kruchev
You should look at what has happened to the Homesteader and Overlander communities in Edmonton, Alberta. Hundreds of cancer cases because of improperly reclaimed wood treatment plant. One of my friends was unfortunately impacted but she is okay now.
BARUCH HASHEM……!!!!! Raw data and facts. Amen. STEADY ON.
I remember televised hearings on this. Somewhere around 1979, I think?
I live a half mile from love canal. All drinking water comes from Poland spring. All other water goes through the fridge, filter into brita filter for cooking and consumption.. It has been like that my entire life growing up in niagara Falls.
How the hell do HOAs always come off as scum bags even with something like this. They where all victims doesn't matter if you own the property or not.
Why misleadingly biohazard ☣️ signs in the thumbnail? Infotainment on safety issues disinforming the audience is unsafe!
Who cares; it's only happening to poor people, amiright?

From love to hooker… yeah, heard that story before.
