The ELROD HOUSE was a prominent filming location for the 1971 James Bond movie DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. The iconic midcentury modern home belonged to interior designer to the stars, Arthur Elrod. Sadly, he was killed in an auto accident in Palm Springs, California on February 18, 1974. Today, I visited the intersection was his life was tragically cut short.

Steve, I was having allergies like that affecting my eyes, sinuses, etc. Turns out it was from running the central heat. So now only using space heaters. Im in So Cal in the Inland Empire area. But dont know if that could also be the problem for you. Maybe not but wanted to mention it.

I love these deeper stories Steve, I didn't know this either! My eyes are fine but my breathing has been a mess since the winds came in so interesting how different people are affected by allergies. The fine dust here in the desert has been bad since the hurricane stirred up the compacted soil a couple of years ago, and it will takes a few years of rains to compact it down again I'm told.

Another tie in to this subject was Steve Mcqueen who was Arthur Elrod's neighbor up the street, Steve moved there in 1969 and must have been aware of Arthur and the 'party house' catering to celebs next door, although often it was low key family life at the home to escape LA work. Steve did ride his dirt bikes and target practiced with his firearm collection in the hills nearby ( Note Steve was on the Manson 'hitlist' in 1969 as well as some others in PS ) Steve was also working on his last major film 'The Towering Inferno' when this accident occurred, lost a neighbor.
What a tragic story! So many people lose their lives unfairly due to the irresponsibility of other drivers. My family isn't exempt either. I've encountered quite a few celebrities in PS but I tend to run. lol Looking back on it, it might have been fun to see how it played out if I had been more open to interaction with them. Of the two that you mentioned, Bob Hope and Suzanne Somers, I ran into them both only once. Bob Hope was in Starbucks with his bodyguard. He was rather old. A 7-year-old relative approached him asking for his autograph and he obliged signing it on a napkin. His bodyguard said, "He never signs autographs for anyone." I don't know if it's true or not, but it might have helped that she looked just like Drew Barrymore in Firestarter, maybe he couldn't resist. lol
The encounter with Suzanne Somer's involved me. It happened at Tyler's one evening. I walked up to the bar and sat down. I ordered a cheeseburger and happened to glance at the lady sitting next to me. She looked at me at the exact same time. We must have been only inches apart. We stared at each other for a few seconds and neither one of us said a thing, and then we both went back to dining on our cheeseburgers. She was alone and so was I. lol My motto was 'Don't bother celebrities and if they pursue you run." Who knows? Maybe she was lonely and would have enjoyed an interaction. Or maybe she was glad I didn't bother her:-) I saw a female celebrity on a round table discussion recently who told Angelina Jolie that her and another male celebrity were so in awe of her that they chose not to speak to her on the set of a film. Angelina answered by saying she wished they would have spoken to her because she tends to be a bit of a stay at home reclusive sort of person. You just never know!

Can't say I knew of him but I was a teenager then and didn't pay attention to much but getting through high school and cars! I do remember the house in the movie. And people drinking and driving was a big thing back then, almost common among all. Glad it's not (even though still exists) as common today.
Hey Steve, My eyes have been really irritated also here in the high desert. I'm guessing it's the low moisture and allergies due to the dryness. Nothing helps. I was told to drink more water so I'm giving that a try. This is a sad story of Arthur Elrod. That must have been the party hill in Palm Springs.
