Things Go Wrong With The Bike Build Off VROD

This time it wasn’t my fault. The bike will still look cool though.

  1. Your very likely loading this money gulping monster onto a trailer as I write this, and I'm sure that the constraints of construction and destruction are wearing thing thin your resolves, and finally will please someone in the community. You kind of need encouragement when you have one of the least loved of the Harley Breed to Work into a show stopping bike build. The V-Rod is one of my favorite models, since it attempted to break all the Iron Moulds of what an HD was meant to be for the enthusiasts who had a different idea about the Marque. Good Luck!

  2. Paul Sr. had an entire staff back in the day to get these bikes done. He didn't really do anything in the build process. Nowadays he has a mechanic who really does most of the work, like on the bike he's doing for the build-off. You're doing this pretty much on your own. Give yourself a break. And you did a LOT more on the VROD than he did on that Roadstar or whatever that bike is that he hacked up.

  4. I love the part where you talk about using the correct crimpers while using the wrong crimpers. Also, it's unnecessary to remove the rear gasket from a deutsch connector. You can just push the crimped end through.

  5. This is so cool to watch! And regarding the tire, it looks the wrong way round because if it was on the back or on a car it would be. But on the front wheel of a bike it is correct the way it is. In this orientation it creates more grip under braking because the grooves are facing against the turning direction. But I guess you already knew that.

  6. That front wheel must be mounted backwards. The treads are supposed to push water outwards and backwards from the center of the tire, like a V shape with the pointy part forwards. Like this, with the wheel moving from left to right >>>>>>>. As it's mounted now it will have the opposite effect, catching water and pushing it inwards.
