The Marriage of Divinity and Humanity – Bishop Barron Sunday Sermon

Friends, we return now to Ordinary Time, and this Sunday, we hear the marvelous story of the wedding feast at Cana from the Gospel of John. It’s as though, as we commence the ordinary liturgical year, we’re meant to see everything through the lens of this reading. The Church sets it up with our first reading from the prophet Isaiah, who speaks of God’s desire to marry his people. Jesus, in his own person, is the marriage of divinity and humanity, and therefore it’s appropriate symbolically that the first of his signs would take place at a wedding.

  7. When I was a new convert, from Judaism, my conversion experience (on March 12, 1990) was so powerful and dramatic, I fell madly in love with Jesus. I was totally astounded to realize that Jesus is real! Jesus is alive! He has all the power and all the love! I got on my knees and prayed, “Lord, I’m yours body and soul, do whatever You want with me.” I asked Him to find me my church before Easter. I didn’t trust myself to choose from among all those churches out there. I really didn’t know anything about churches. I just wanted to be as close to Jesus as I could possibly be. I was so crazy about Jesus, I asked Him to marry me. I even bought a ring, with three hearts, which I wear to this day. Did I understand all this beautiful theology Bishop Barron is teaching us? No. I just knew Jesus is awesome and I want to belong to Him and nobody else. Within a month, the Lord led me to the Catholic Church. I entered the Church in 1991. Where else could I be this close, this intimate, with the Lord? The Lord knew exactly what He was doing when He brought me to the Church He founded. I thank God every day for my Catholic Faith.

    I believe in grace, as you explained it. I tell my Brothers, there is nothing you can do to impress God except you do what he tells you or expect of us. Leave sin and embrace the sacraments.

  18. Jesus never Creates anything, He Heals, He Cleanses, He makes more of what already Is, He returns people's bodies to how they were created to be. Two miracles differ from the rest, each have a set purpose. The Walking on Water and Commanding the Elements, Is a 'Sign' He really is God. Turning Water into Wine is a Spiritual Message for those who shall follow after. First we shall explain something to you, what Holy Scriptures do is Deliver information on Two Fronts. There is the 'Written' Word as perused by your Intellect, but that is a form of camouflage against the merely curious or Proud Intellects which Imagine they can find and 'Know' and Learn Our God, as if He is a subject like Maths or a Language or one of the Sciences, indeed they can climb to very high Titles using the Prowess of their Intellects like the Temple Priests and the Scribes and Saduccee and Pharacee and Rabbi's and even Saul. The Question the enemy never let's form in your mind is this. How comes Despite being able to quote and speak their Holy Scripture from beginning to end, and having various theological ideas as you do, How come they did Not Know who Jesus was? Do you remember the Gospels telling you how well versed Saul was concerning Scripture? It tells you a few times but Satan has you barely notice it as your eyes pass across the passages. You are 'Not' reading a side note or page filling technique, it Is a Vital Message, what is the Message? The Scriptural Information of Itself is 'Not' enough to Save You. Let us explain. Intellectually Agreeing with Holy Scriptures are those Satisfied with mere Water, every Interpretation they make shall Give their Selves something, never will they Interpret 'Against' the Interests of the Self which is the Root from which the Intellect is drawing power and Constantly Serving, this is Its Nature since the Fall, and the Consequence of it, 'Only' Faith can Overcome its Power Over 'Your' spirit. How did Saul become Paul? When the Holy Spirit Ignited the Information he Contained, it gave Life to the Information as a Whole within him. How does this work? Consider the machine you use to read this, it contains much information perhaps, but unless you supply it Power, it is quite useless. Your spirits are meant to feed upon Scriptural Truths, but now they are starving, for the intellect eats each morsal claiming the bread for its own, and it chews the cud using discursive thought and reasoning and makes of it that best suited to its Own Palate. There is Only one way to turn your Water into the Wine of God's Knowledge, your Heart must Cry Out for more than Words, It Must be Dissatisfied with the Judgements Ideas or Experiences of Others and Yearn to Know God in the Heart where He always resides. To help you with this, we shall leave you with three keys. First in Scripture, Sandals are the 'Will' Secondly, the Feet are the Mind. Thirdly, and the most vital thing to Know, is the Net or Nets are 'Neural' The Holes you fall into are Set Ideas which your spirit is bound by, but Everything is of your making and Not of Our Father's making. When you Worship your Idea of God, you create an Idol, that Always 'Seems' to Agree or be in Agreement with what you Imagine of God or what your Self requires of Him. Truly your intellects Abide in their Own light, but Jesus Warned You, If 'Your' light is Darkness ( which it is ) how Great is that Darkness? This Darkness is where abides the False knowledge that says, All my thoughts and judgements are correct, they Must be, they are My Thoughts.

  35. I remember when I was growing up in my early teens Mom used to drag us kids to church every Sunday to listen to the lectures and stories from the Holy rollers who preached to the congregation.

    I became interested in the various messages drummed into us and especially about the need to love your brother so I decided to put the concept into practice. I was upstairs in my room after the Church service loving my brother, Gee it was fun and he liked it too, maybe we were too loud because the next thing that happened was the bedroom door flew open and Mom stood there with her mouth open and a face as red as a beet.

    She screamed for us to put our clothes back on and then chased us down the stairs with a broom, Gee that broom handle hurt and you could hear her yelling all over the neighborhood, things were very frosty within the family for about a month, Parents are sometimes very hard for kids to understand, Jesus tells us one thing and parents tell us the opposite ….Oh well – –

  36. Tomorrow's Gospel is Jesus' declaration that He is the Bridegroom. When we eat of His Flesh in the Mass, we consummate our marriage with Him. HOw dear it is to think that God is one with us not only Spiritually but also Physically, His Flesh is our Flesh. Calvinists believe in the Eucharist as long as you believe in Jesus' presence in it only as spiritual presence. But we Catholics enjoy being in God's presence Spiritually AND Physically. God and us are truly married!
