Philippines Faces Down China's 'Monster' Ship | Taiwan Talks EP544

China has begun 2025 with a near continuous presence of its 165-meter “monster” coast guard ship in the Philippine’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off the Philippine coast of Zambales. A further 60 to 70 nautical miles to the west is Scarborough Shoal, seized by China in 2012, but located within Manila’s EEZ. The West Philippine Coast Guard says Beijing seeks to “normalize” its presence in this area and thereby change the status quo. In this show, South China Sea expert, Liu Fu-kuo, said that Chinese reports show it plans to militarize Scarborough Shoal to enhance the feature’s strategic value, with Beijing waiting for an appropriate time.

  1. The Chinese history that they are talking, and their base for claiming the whole south china sea is" FAKE". For there is no Emperor in the history of mankind, that invades and occupy the high seas, instead of land.

  2. What is China doing in Philippines' EEZ? Of course it's part of their "peaceful diplomatic talks". Nothing bullying or threatening in there. Just "peace". It was even so kind of China to send underwater drones to map the Philippine waters' topography. What a peace loving neighbor.

  3. Cut the chase, China does not have legitimate claim inside Philippine waters. Everyone knows that both parties are buying time for the conflict that will happen in the Pacific for WWW 3. China is following the footsteps of Russia.

  5. The professor is so wrong about China's historical claim. He makes no sense because all other countries around the sea have been crisis-crossing and using the sea since time immemorial. He is always pro-China and biased.

  6. I wonder if the citizens of China are so proud of their government? Or are they ashamed? Or maybe even scared? I guess no one knows because they're being silenced by their own government. I'd like to hear the thoughts of Chinese people outside of China.

  7. Thy banner, dear to all our hearts, It's sun and stars alight, O never shall it's shining field Be dimmed by tyrant's might! Beautiful land of love, O land of light, In thine embrace 'tis rapture to lie, But it is glory ever, when thou art wronged, For us, thy sons to suffer and die 🇵🇭
