  1. Hi, I’m having issues with my ccd-trv37, it refuses to play any tapes not even fast forward or rewind, it can record but the zoom is stuck and will sometimes zoom in itself, the tape draw sometimes opens by itself and doesn’t create tension when ejecting, refuses to close, what could be the issue, it’s shows the c:32:11 error code

  2. Hello 12voltvids I found the Flex broken on my Sony Handycam CCD-TRV43 where it plays and where I press the buttons on the tape, I was just wondering if those types of cameras still have parts. Regarding the units, the zoom is also very slow. I was wondering if you have ever repaired one of those cameras that has had the same fault?I was wondering if you have ever repaired those types of cameras?

  3. I screwed the pendulum of a beta machine by inserting a tape with broken lid, As you mentioned the beta tape is designed in a way that the braking mechanism is released by the lid, If the lid is broken, the brake is not released and the hubs are locked all the time and the VCR tries to force them to move but they won't which breaks some gears, Not sure if the betacam hub mechanism is the same, But I learned my lesson the hard way and will never do that mistake again.

  4. Betacam was not the answer to VHS, it was the answer to M-format/Hawkeye/Recam. Betacam SP was the answer for M-II. I agree, Beta did not lose, it transformed into a pro format.

  6. Nice job! I also happened to have serviced one last week. A bunch of mechanical issues, including capstan roller assembly being seized and that wasn't retracting properly, wrecking the tape at every FWD or REW. Some self calibration from the menu also helped. Glad I didn't need to get a tensiometer and settings were still good (gosh those tensiometers are expensive!)

  7. Some people think SVHS is better than broadcast standard because it's got more luma resolution than BetacamSP. But as you rightly point out, the chroma resolution of SVHS is the same miserable garbage as VHS and it's utterly unsuitable for broadcast. Then of course there's noise, lots of VHS noise. The weakness of the UVW series is a lack of FM audio track compatibility. I've seen a picture of such a machine which had FM audio added, but that was very non-standard. Some BetacamSP machines have a bit more resolution than the UVW models, but I like the picture of the UVWs. What I don't like is when the SM capacitors dry up in the DC-DC converter behind the VU meters and it blows up the front control panel. There was an external job/shuttle wheel available for these which is useful.

  8. Can anyone advise , I have a Sanyo svhs 1991 midmount. I can't get power in the psu to the secondary side of the board , the primary side shows 230v (u.k) on multimeter It is separated by a transformer, I have replaced mostly all capacitor and diodes that were leaking but it still won't power up 😢

  9. Another fantastic video. I have one of these too and had to bring it back to life with some lubrication and trial and error. Its a tank of a machine just like most of the old broadcast gear. The station i worked at had BetaSX before finally going off tape completely.

  10. I'm completely unfamiliar with betacam, but enjoyed watching you repair this unit. I thought it was done for.

On a related note, does it not seem like the consumer always ends up with the worst products? We got stuck with LCDs instead of SED. We finally got a good display technology in plasma only for them to drop it due to cost? I'm not overly impressed with newer tech like OLED either, I find older tech like CRT (mostly retro gaming & SD content for TVs, but the monitors hold up well) and Plasma to still generally be the better option. I've been so lucky to find a couple of good Plasma TVs recently, and I really enjoy them. Do you feel similar?

  11. ok so if the machine needed mechanical adjustment could a dummy cassette be inserted without the detection issues?
i've deliberately got my own dummy VHS with the tape lid removed (cos it gets in the way of parts of the mechanism) just in case for adjustments or to trick the machine so to clean it or (if needed) to adjust the tape transport arms loaded or observing the capstan if its not eating a tape?
