Star Trek Online has updated the model for Earth Space Dock, for 2025, based on Season 3 of Star Trek Picard the Probert Station (Sol Station) debuted as the newly minted Enterprise F is seen exiting the docking bay. In this video, I will tour the new ESD in STO, and give you a walkthrough of it and the space around it, as well as the ground map of ESD to show you the changes, and updates and give you an intro and overview of what it looks like. I will also dive into the official blog on playstartrekonline.com to go through the details of the station’s design from the game artist’s perspective.
It has been a long time since Star Trek Online has updated the exterior visuals of Earth Spacedock, the last update was in 2011, and so here we are 14 years later, with a complete update of the station, Earth, and surrounding space of ESD, moving on from the mushroom design first seen in Star Trek III the movie, and TNG, to the new design seen in Star Trek Picard Season 3.

I'd personally add toilets but that's probally just me.
The only sad thing is we can no longer get outside of space doc and jump off it turn around and see the exterior of the space dock I did this one time in the past 6 years of playing the game and I don't know if I can still do it with this new model
An updated model was needed and the effort put into making this is appreciated, but I wish they updated the old ESD instead of making this. Classic ESD is iconic and they said Picard is a different timeline anyway, so we didn't need a Picard ESD. They didn't even replace classic ESD in the campaign missions, so honestly there was no point.
Discovery is still canon and not a alternative timeline and no it isn't officially at all.
On Lower Decks, that is just ppl interpretation of that episode that Discovery is in a alternate timeline all because of a Discovery Klingon be8ng shown on TV
There is no official statement from Paramount that Discovery isn't canon and in a alternative timeline.
I wish ppl stop making things just because they dislike Discovery.

Honestly, all the needed to do to keep it in a geosynchronous orbit, was have the sun move around the map. That’s all they needed to do. Been playing since launch, it’s a great game. Thanks for making the video!
It's really not that great lol the outside looks so boring and they need to go back to the blue station i am not sitting outside of that tank to look at that lol, they should've asked us what we wanted first and i would've told them i just wanted them to expand the blue station. Inside however i like how they've spruced it up but the lights are now too bright in areas especially the exchange area, i don't like the earth model it's too brown, and the shipyard view is now unappealing to look at. I used to like standing there for a minute looking at the shipyard view now i'd rather look at a nebula lol i appreciate any breathtaking views it feels so out of this world and magical.
Trying to make earth look too real doesn't translate in the game and the real earth looks much bluer than that, i don't mind that it's bigger but the blue earth was fine. Also beaming onto earth spacedock before we could just click beam down but now we have to go into a dialog window and then click beam down. They tried to make it similar to how deep space 9 does that when you fly near the station but it makes no sense it's quicker to just have a button that beams us down right away.
Why i quit STO … 1: The community becomes incredibly ( and i mean on a god level ) toxic whenever you point out a shortcomming or something you wish to see improved. ( they act as if its pure perfection speaking out earns social death )… 2: the character view is bad it needs a traditional 3rd person setup …. the character modeling is dated needs an upgrade… the ship interiors are must buy and not all of them have it …. theres little to no charater freedom between player and npc makes it feel repeditive … the events give the worst rewards litterally noting you want ad will be in the store anyway… the econemy in game is so past greedy inflation it makes wow look cheap.
i'll play again if they address those issues outside from that … its simply not worth the effort or invested time to me … its a shame because i loved my captains loved my personal lore but what can you do when the community is anti improvement and the company is simply not listening
According to the old ground ESD diagrams of the station the antennae on top were for interstellar comms, datalink etc. The ones on the bottom were for planetary comms, datalink etc. So I assume the same will hold true for the new ESD, just more of them. I'm fine with the new ESD, hoping we console peasants get it eventually but what I REALLY want is for them to continue to mirror S3 of Picard and move the old ESD to a nearby system and recreate the permanent fleet museum in game. That would be awesome. Complete with the Enterprises A and D and all the others from Picard.
Yeah and I can't help but notice they stuffed the Enterprise F inside. Why do I feel like STO is going to Fleet Formation all the UFP players.
Discovery is still cannon. It is cannon. It will always be cannon. Lower Decks didn't change that. Lower Decks never even attempted to say that.
I swear people are so miserable nowadays… it's sad honestly. New ESD looks great. Thanks for covering this! Also why would Picard be in an alternate universe? S3 perfectly capped of the TNG era.

they need to change the inside. Hell, bring in an updated engine (not going to happen, but a guy can dream) for the whole game. It is showing its age in spades, even without the rubber banding.

Never was a fan of ST: Picard, but i like this new Spacedock. It sure looks like a logical replacement for the old one though i would've the old one to be also there as the Starfleet musem.

The spires on the Top (pointing up) are for subspace. Communications throughout the Federation the ones pointing down are for planetary communications.

I feel the game is slowly dying. Content isn’t so frequent like it used to be. The wiki hasn’t been updated in 2 years. New missions are far and few between. I’m still waiting for an Enterprise focused mission set.
I think they should give us an option to visit the old versions of Spacedock, especially the last one.

The new ESD feels smaller then the old spacedock. but this is exciting and refreshing for a new update.
Discovery is Prime TimeLine, Lower Decks Doesn't change that, all lower decks did was show an alternate timeline version of a Klingon, nowhere did it say that Klingons that look like didn't Exist in the Prime Timeline, as stated by everyone who Makes Current Trek, every show since Discovery is Prime Universe/Timeline.
They should take the old ESD and make it the fleet museum like in Picard S3. That would be amazing.
DIS is NOT an alternate timeline(even though I wish it was), the creator literally said that was not his intent with that scene
we also saw a Galaxy class and Sovereign class in that scene, does that mean TNG is now an alternate timeline? what about when the Bird of Prey got turned into a Klingon barge from VOY? does that mean VOY is now an alternate timeline?
also Earth IS rotating it's just REALLY slow and the reason for the lines is because Earth had to be split up into different chunks so they could get around the game's texture limit for single objects

I tried to give this game so many chances but after hundreds of dollars spent to still get blown up in 5 seconds in PVP and most elite content I realized the devs are some of the greediest people in gaming today and I stopped playing. Glad they are modernizing it for newer players though.
10:48 – I do not intend to spread hate or hostilities, but no. having this new ESD doesn't conflict with canon or the prime timeline cause picard is prime universe. there is absolutely no evidence that 'Picard' OR 'Discovery' are an alternate timeline. Lower Decks didn't prove anything and Paramount have stated multiple times that Discovery is prime universe and prime timeline.

DIS is not in an alternate timeline. That scene in Lower Decks only proved that the DIS Klingons and their ship designs existed in alternate realities as well as the "prime" universe.

Very cool, watching this makes me want to try to get into STO again. Wanted to also mention that the Easter egg from Lower Decks you're referring to didn't indicate anything about retconning or timeline-changing, DIS is still in the Prime Timeline. The probability wave was pulling from myriad universes, and all that moment indicated is that another universe also has multiple Klingon varieties the same way Prime does. The probability wave also changed the Cerritos to a Sovereign-class, which remains a Prime class too even though it was in the line-up of form changes.
