Actually there is one more missed out since Gi-hun knows that the players of the squid game is 456 and he found out at the end of season 1 that Player 001 Oh Il Nam was the creator of that game. He should have taken that knowledge that Player 001 could be the frontman. This could be supported by Hwang Jun-Ho infiltration in season 1 that there is no data in every game were made about Player 001. It means Player 001 is reserved to the frontman or either the creator or even the VIP. He can use that as an advantage for his plans to bring down the Squid game.
Also in the first game of Season 2 Player 001 is not even participated the game.
