And Canada still went with the far, far costlier and less useful F-35 over the Gripen. At least Ukraine eventually got the right idea. The Swedes sure know how to build things properly, and not just furniture.

I just hope the Gripen E will be the choice of the PAF as the MRF. One this will allow the PHL to appear less of a US lapdog. And, the savings in the long term, are substantial to other choices. The Gripen has much more longevity than say the Viper and is proven against the ccp sukhoi copies.

19:21 F-16 was available, gripen was not. F-16 is a great platform to learn weapons and tactics, transitioning to Gripen from this, once airframes become available, possibly even produced in Ukraine, would not be difficult.
Add Denmark to potential customers. Denmark spent 3 billion for 27 F-35s but since Trump has threatened to take Greenland by force, I suspect they will be looking for a new supplier.

Gripen is only competetive at the ultra low end at USD 50 million/unit. At 70, F16 comes in. At 90, the Rafale is in. At 120, might as well buy F35A. Filtering out Russian and Chinese client states, The Gripen is only attractive to middle of the road, relatively rich, Non Alligned nations. Not many of them around. Pity Sweden

Have you actually studied (or googled/read) Swedish military doctrine of 1990, 2000 and 2010?
The second crash was a major incident: It happened during an outdoors summer festival in Stockholm, when the streets were filled with people. (And cameras…) The pilot had to eject, but luckily the plane crashed on an empty spot, and no one was injured. But it could easily have become a catastrophe. Public shows with the Gripen were promptly and indefinitely cancelled. Public opinion was probably at its most adversarial at that point. Add the bribery scandal and you had one unpopular project. It's only after the plane proved its worth in recent years that the Swedish people warmed to it.
Don't mind me, I'm just here for the drama from all the F-35 fanboys. 😇
