James Cooper, a self-exiled human, lives alone on a deadly planet nicknamed “Hell’s Garden,” surviving among dangerous predators, acid rain, and hostile wildlife. After five years of isolation, he rescues Zyra, a Var’thian scout commander whose ship crashes nearby. Despite initial distrust, they collaborate to repair her ship’s quantum core by combining human and Var’thian technology. Through battles with shadowstalkers (particularly one nicknamed Alice) and other challenges, they develop a deep bond. Instead of leaving when the ship is repaired, they decide to establish a research outpost together, following the shadowstalkers’ migration to study the planet’s secrets.
