Many of the people interested in the human exploration of space are ready to accept the idea that sooner or later we can go to Mars to build a permanent base, and even large settlements; but to the same people, the prospect of transforming the planet’s environment to adapt it to the needs of us on earth seems instead pure fantasy or, at best, a technological challenge to be projected into a very distant future.
But are things really like that?
A point of view, that of these people, completely shared and worthy of respect… But although it is currently a cold, dry and probably lifeless planet, according to many other experts, Mars has all the elements necessary to sustain life: water, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. Not to mention that several of its physical characteristics, such as gravity, rotational speed and axial tilt, are virtually identical to those of the Earth and make it the ideal candidate for a future terraforming attempt.

crazy.
If you think you can terraform Mars, then there should be no worries about climate change on Earth. Which would be easier, making an uninhabitable planet habitable or repairing damage on a planet that already supports terrestrial life?
It's an idiotic idea.
Fix the Earth first.
Mars doesn't have a magnetic field like Earth does which acts to protect us from the solar wind which is dangerous to life. How do you terraform a magnetic field which on Earth requires a molten iron core?
Ridiculous idea!
So… Instead of fixing the problems we created on Earth, we're supposed to terraform a inhospitable dried up husk with the wrong gravity and magnetic field for anything from Earth to survive ? Crack pipe dreams is an understatement.
What's with this new voice? Where's our friend? 😮
@InsaneCuriosity I have already figured out how to successfully solve this in the future; The Europa Clipper recently launched, and if research shows that the entire moon is sterile, then with the Starship, which has already proven successful, we can transport H2O in large quantities from the Europa moon to the red planet in the form of a convoy for the success of the actual terraforming! ..and I sent this idea to the Mars Society and E.Musk!
lol. Terraform
Mars. Can’t take care of earth. Typical human thought process
My Idea: Terraforming Venus is more practical than Mars. It is required at least two dwarf planets to revive the Venus. One dwarf planet to collide with Venus at a specific angle to create a proper rotation from 10 to 20 hours per day. Another dwarf planet to be the moon to liquifying the mantle layer core.
I believe alien/god terraforming Earth with my proposed idea above
Can’t be done, no magnetic field. If we could smack something like Ganymede into Mars and wait a billion years, could happen. That is not a near term capability though.
First things first! Ya need a magnetic shield out at L1 to block the solar wind or everything you're doing will just get blown off into space. a nuclear power plant strong enough to engulf the entire planet with a strong magnetic field ~ Then start warming the planet however you want ~ the deepest places on Mars today has almost enough PSI for liquid water ~ it will not take much to kick start the whole thing with a little push from our Tech!
No Magnetic field is huge and we really don’t have a solution for creating an artificial one. Without it the atomosphere we create will be blown into space (this is also due to insufficient gravity to keep gasses grounded). No magnetic field also means no radiation protection from sun and cosmic rays. There is also a huge issue with percolates in the soil, which are very toxic to humans and most life. We can’t even touch the soil as is.
A 'straw' and 'balloon'
Suck some atmosphere from Venus
'Spit' it on Mars
Save the ice caps if it doesn't work
😎
THE VOICE IS WELL OFF
Answer: No. Without a magnetic shield generated by an active core, Mars will forever be raked by solar winds which will tear away any atmosphere which might be created and the surface bathed in radiation which will kill any unprotected life.
I'd recommend to terraform the Sahel Zone, today a half-desert destroyed by a foolish French colonial policy that demanded deforestation. Shall we?
Mars will forever be a dangerous planet. It permanently lacks magnetic defense from the sun's radiation due to its cold, dead core. Mars cannot be awakened. Let it rest in peace.
The best thing would be to gradually move Venus to an orbit between the asteroid belt and Jupiter and make Mars it's satellite. With a large moon Venus might have plate tectonics and, that far out, we could live on Venus, after terraforming, when the Sun gets large and swallows the Earth. This gives a us few billion years to get it done.
Need a magnetosphere first, which is a large undertaking.
Where the usual voice go ?
No, it’s a waste. Hey, here’s an idea! Let’s terraform our planet damages, including placing solar collecting screens in the L2 point to cool earth and microwave the power to the moon to build aluminum to put up more shields. Heck, we can actually terraform the Moon if motivated. There is no reason to mess with that poisonous rust ball of a gravity well versus putting O’Neil cylinders around earth and then Sol! Personally, I want every damn dime spent on that piece of trash back. What a god-damn stupid waste of time and effort!
Terraform a planet. 🤭
We have serious problems on our planet and trying to export the same corruption and mess on another would be cri inal Please leave the rest of universe clean of human intervention.
Not sure why "mbars" is being read as "embars". It's "millibars" or more commonly "hPa" or "hectoPascals".
Without the heat in the center of Mars, could we still dig and live underground? solar panels work better without clouds.
Give us a break , perhaps you know how to increase the gravity so it can retain water , create a magnetic field , clean up the atmosphere and so on , never happen
