Alcohol, Testosterone, Gunpowder, and Ego's are a deadly combination. Gotta use your heads people, it's fun but at the end of the day it's not something to mess with drunk , inexperienced and ego driven. Especially when you have enough gunpowder to level an entire home . Messing it up for the rest of us sucks, but people dying and losing limbs is beyond sad . Don't give these people a reason to crack down on the celebration and don't be an idiot and have a potentially dangerous fireworks display. And never set fireworks off near stored fireworks. We will never get people to stop doing fireworks, it's part of the culture and a right of passage for some people. But whenever you set off fireworks you have to use common sense, be sober and consider your surroundings.

Is a briefing really needed?
Surprised to see that a lot of the comments are redirecting the focus to the Maui Wildfire Disaster. People are claiming that the former disaster received less attention than the current, but that is far from the truth. Recency bias.
Both these events were preventable, however the first was a shock to the islands, and the other is a reoccurring problem that has never been solved in the state's history.
We should want these problems fixed, but we're looking in the wrong direction, asking the wrong questions.

Fireworks are stupid. The Mayor can outlaw them, but they wont because they want votes from the many people who like them. The Fire Department should respond to any neighborhood where fireworks are being used illegally so they can blanket the scofflaw homeowners homes with firefighting foam. Class A firefighting foam (PFAS free) is enviromentally safe and can be used to cover a vast amount of square footage from tower ladders. Do it and watch the problem go away. The firefighting foam will make the stockpiles of fireworks too wet to burn and put an end to the fire problem.

House explodes from fireworks, three people dead, countless property damage. Man blows his hand off handling fireworks. WTF … this ain't the 4th of July.
Shut down the fireworks? Ask the victims, their family, friends, neighbors, the first responders that saw them, the medical staff that attended to them …

Should be banned
First & most important, i must say this is So sad, and my heart goes out to all involved, all suffering physically, emotionally, loss. It isnt fair to compare disasters. That said, i cant help fully understand the responses here about the devastating Maui disaster a couple years ago. That was a horrific natural disaster that resulted in worse loss due to bad or untimely information, poor planning, lack of evacuation plans and infrastructure. My heart aches for all those who lost so much there. This video involves a stupid, arguably criminal accident at midnight on a holiday. A sudden, dramatic, devastating but short-lived incident. I image many involved sent prayers to Maui when the people there underwent their disaster, which still shows destruction of the town, people had to leave, lost their homes & jobs. I hope everyone can also send their loving prayers for recovery of the relatively small number of victims, and the survivors.❤
