  1. 26:18 26:18 Can we somehow "mothball" projects like NERVA and their industrial-base, rather than let them vaporise into nothing?

    Maybe we should bring in an "act" that specifies that such achievements should be preserved in something like the "boneyard" until their time comes back again!

    I hate going backwards!

  2. Here, we have Nixon's competitive response to Britain's own home-grown stuff-up, the cancellation of the nearly completed TSR2 ĵet fighter. Who won? Politicians, of course! The actual competition itself could possibly be seen as yet another typical political sleight of hand, the old familiar 'let's call it a draw' trick. And the biggest losers? Everyone and anyone working enthusiastically in the Space Industry! 🙄😢☹️

    They prefered to transfer massive amounts of our Nations wealth to their pals, backers, friends and cronnies via WARFARE in Vietnam.
    And it worked. Our best young men were used as cannon foder and money for weapons was spent like water.

When discussing Wehrner Von Braun, the first thing that needs to be said is he was a nazi, who brought into nazi ideology, and oversaw slave labor operations that may killed more people then his V2 rocket did. This is more then a black mark or a foot note, it is the major thing he did in his life.
    His work in and leadership of the U.S. space program is the footnote.

Now the scientific part has been shown by angry…really welll…I would like to know the $$$$s…how much would cost projects like this…Apollo was VERY!!!, VERY!! expensive…NASA budget was in the 1960s 6 times or more than today's budget….and probably was entirely, or 90% for the moon. I love space but down to earth….i would like to know the costs of these projets….and probably we will know the answer why these projets were shut down

    Any imagining of what NASA could have done needs to take in account the ever increasing schedule delays and cost overruns by NASA, which are approaching exponential growth.

  7. before some screeching "well actually" clown chimes in, these types of rockets rent used in atmosphere. yes they were tested here on earth, but keep in mind this was also the era of setting off nukes in the desert and on some unlucky islanders home island. nuclear power in rockets and in the power needed to run your home, is the only viable means of going forward. if the idea is to get humanity off of its carbon habit then nuclear power will oform the foundation of our power grids. solar, wind, hydro, batteries, etc… are all supplemental sources and this is doubly true up in space. solar panels in spaceas a primary power source for any crewed mission would be criminally irresponsible, when nuclear offers several schemes by which power and thrust can be produced in copious amounts and at a consistent rate

  8. 0:52 – Actually, quite familiar with how close came as one of my professors in college worked on Kiwi (flightless NERVA). He had some interesting stories from the work like the final destruction test they performed. They pulled all the control rods out and just let the engine go. He noted that it was so powerful on the thrust that it shook itself apart as he saw fuel rods being spit out the nozzle due to the engine breaking some of the struts holding the fuel rods in place and the fuel rods were shot out the nozzle.

    @Angry – your timing is off on how long it would take to get to and from Mars. Based on information from my professor (the one mentioned above) that was working on the project, it would only take about 30 to 45 days to get to Mars, not 90.

  10. In terms of scale, going to Mars is like going to your neighbours place, with the sun being the town over, it's that close and very pointless. In less than 100 years we should be able to catch up to Voyager2 in less than a weekend. But hey, lets wait 10, 15, 20,000 years for Mars to possibly have atmosphere from nuking it? Pfft. Waste.
    And who gets to decide who can throw our resources into the sun? Literally.
    Sure you can own things and hoard them like a dragon, but in 100 years when you are dead and gone, it's someone elses turn with those resources..nope, never mind, threw them in the sun, just have to wait for another asteroid to do a door dash.

    Mine the moon, throw 20, 50, 100kg lumps of gold into the ocean then dredge it up, easy.

  11. Hacker Gary McKinnon got designations of the off world marines 30 years ago…Trump declassified Space Force in his first term…like the video says this is old technology…what is possible in 2025 would and does appear as magic or alien to the dumbed down general public

  12. I’m not familiar with the nuclear S-IVb stage flight profile but I suspect it would be placed in orbit like Skylab using the S-II rather than under its own power. A manned crew would be launched separately and dock with it, and then use it for propulsion. I can’t imagine it being launched critical and at power or doing a reactor startup during launch. What a mess if it was critical and at power if it had to abort.

Thanks for your research – nuclear propulsion – wow! So does the hydrogen turn to plasma? The studies they're doing now with plasma is mind boggling.
