As they have said below. SpaceX has said man y many times. They will send Supply ships first and fuel depots ahead of time. However, They could use Ion Drives, Nucleur Propulsion, and etc. toi get there faster.
The solar farms can be answered easily. We don't need them. We already have mini nucleur reactors that are the size of semi trailers that we were going to use to power our moon base anyways. These are constructed out of different materials and put together in such a way that they are safer then anything thats been made before and have almost 0% of meltdowns. They are also modular so if you need more energy add another one.
If memory serves me right (it has been a few years since they posted a video about the overall plan) the first mission is not a return mission. They have said the first 3-5 trips are one way and they will have return flights in the future but when you sign up expect a one way trip. The amount of ships they plan to send every launch window is in the thousand. It is a lot of equipment, and a lot of automated starship will be sent before any of the missions begin. A lot of the main equipment and infrastructure will already be there.
To get a truck sized rover named perseverance to the surface of Mars, they used a ULA rocket equivalent to a falcon 9. Just think about that.
Elon was always a "back of the envelope" thinker. It does not surprise me that he is trumpeting a mission profile that is not physically possible. He thinks of stuff like a 9 year old watcher of "Jonny Quest" and then browbeats the "adults" in his engineering team to make his crazy ideas work somewhat. The only thing we can give him credit for is having the will and the resources to force the American Space Program to speed up its progress. And he is damned near becoming a Nazi dictator to further his dreams. Is that a good trade off? Our democracy for a trip to Mars?
I'd like to know why Elon is obsessed with rapid reusability when the bridge to Mars and back has these obvious delta V flaws! Where is the plan! Why focus on RRR, when you haven't got a full solution?
Proximity of Starship landing & Launch Site relative to Location of Solar Panels, or Oxygen Hydrogen Tanks, which were delivered Prior to Passenger Landing, as well as no Pilot visual and control . To prevent knocking Down Burning up since there's no Chopsticks to Catch, no Water to keep landing site from melting and digging Landing pads or Melting to welding landing pads to any regolith, or possible rock iron.. Rust … Why JPL never Loses the Rover, because they never actually Land on the Surface. They Parachute, and Retro Rockets use the Rockets just before landing. On Earth for any of the Rocket an Unsurmountable amount of Water is needed to keep Truster, & the Launch site from Melting and Falling Apart. At landing site on Mars has to be repair before any other Lunar Mini – Starship . I forgot tell SpaceX Engineers About this when I worked there …
Note in Hawthorne California Site. There, were only 8 Electric Drivers (EV) no one there can Afford a Tesla and Survive Living . there are Commuters who drive each way 80-+ miles. That's 160 + Miles a Day. There were only 4 Tesla's, Most Drive V8's with some Hondas Toyotas and Lot's of them Drive 1975 or Older.

Thank you, this is great stuff. Mars is my specialty, and some would say my home planet. This is a very astute plan! I ALSO think as soon as possible, we should get the fuel depot going on Phobos. Make it like a truck stop with a diner and everything. Why not? Great days are ahead.
Why not just have two full sized Starships, one for crew to land on Mars, the other to push or tug the crew Starship?

In the book, 'A Travel Guide to Marse' they say the South polar cap area is the only place that solar panels can be used. If this is true solar panels can only be used there. A better choice may be a small modular reactor (SMR) to power the fuel and oxidizer production facility.
If you really want to power a Mars mission why not build a solar power station in Lunar polar orbit and have it pointed to Mars? This may be a future idea but I do not think it is too early to think about it.

The SAFIRE experiment did Not disprove the electrical sun model. A solar "wind" is a stream of charged particles. This is the very definition of a current. All currents have magnetic fields. How do you accelerate an object in free-space without propellant?

I thought i read somewhere one of the early spaceX engineers left and started a company researching nuclear propulsion. I could be wrong.
It may be practical to use a hydrogen-oxygen rocket for the Martian return-to-orbit craft ("mini-Starship"). There is enough water in the Martian atmosphere, without the trouble of setting up a mine and refinery, that that could be electrolysed into H2/LOx propellant for direct fueling. The Sabatier process is trickier than it sounds; look up "coal gassification" for more info.
SpaceX is not planning to just make 2 or 3 starships, they want to build 100's of them. They may send a stripped-down, mostly empty demonstrator, then continue their strategy of iteration, sending one after another, progressively adding capabilities to each. I suggest they will send 10-20 ships in the first transfer window, with no two being identical. I predict no less than 5 successful consecutive landings before any dangerous payloads, or passengers, will make the journey. I believe SpaceX will make human life multi-planetary, just not in the next 4 years. Don't forget, Elon time = time * 2.5.

His "StarShip" is a 1950s Buck Rogers design. Single stage to orbit (SSTO), all know is wrong. His Dual stage to orbit is 90% (because of rocket equation log values) the same. Yes, a mini star ship or 3rd or 4th stage is needed. Artemis is .. 5 stage (2 boosters). We learned from the 1950s to have many throw away stages. He needs a smaller 1st stage, then a 2nd booster stage. Then a 3rd and 4th stage. The 4th go to the moon or Mars. And Stainless is too heavy! Stainless is cheap so you use it if you throw away your rocket. Like now. Learning. But once you have re-usable ship, you would want it made of an expensive but lighter material – carbon (duh). His ship will have to be completely re learned and designed using carbon fiber.
Most likely weβre gonna start with settlers that know this is a one way trip. This one or two settlers would command dozens if not hundreds of robots to help build whatβs needed. If weβre lucky, in ten years we will have a proper space port and refueling station.

One thing AA forgets, you can always send a cluster of Starships. Two could be tanker versions that would be used for refueling the human rated Starships. Also you could have a couple of supply Starships also. None but the Human rated ones actually land. Two Human rated ones with just one having passengers and he leaves out recycling of food and water. Growing your own while traveling to and from.

I think it would be best to use nuclear thermal rockets as tuggs to push fuel tankers from LEO to Mars orbit. A full tanker will weigh a few thousand tons. Starships on Mars will only require enough fuel to get to Mars orbit.

Neat idea, usung the same add on type equipment theyused in Phantom Menace to grant hyperdrive to the X wings and Nabooo fighters who all leave thise boster in orbit. Their ships disengage then descend ti their target planet and eventually return to dock with the module so they can access hyperdrive again.
Good new to humanity by Elon Musk! There exists multiple big caves and craters on Mars surface, containing minerals and liquid water/ ice sheets, etc. These caves and big craters could be used as shelters initially to get protection from gravities, radiations and temperature fluctuations there on Mars surface. Now humanity to take shelter in it and establish a permanent base on Mars surface within next couple of years. It is possible to reach there faster with the use of advanced UFO/UAP like spacecrafts (within couple of days).'
