The Chiba Urban Monorail in Chiba, Japan is the world’s longest monorail system.

The monorail is a nice ride with great views over river with best city countryside view…!!!

The platform is raised slightly above where normally there’d be tracks. Instead of tracks there’s just a flat, almost featureless, slightly lower area. A few signs warn of occasional danger.

The trains arrive almost comically, hung from the rail above, and sliding into the station. It’s futuristic, though the stations and the trains themselves are more modern day (well, modern-ish, given the system was built in the ‘80s).

The train sways. It’s a smooth side-to-side motion that is unlike any other public transportation method. It’s not a lot, but it’s noticeable. The view out is incredible. You’re several stories up, and unlike other elevated rail systems, you have a clear view of the ground.

Looking out the front, there’s a sense of flying as you zoom between buildings and over streets and canals.
