  22. One of the best feminist films in the entire history of cinema, as well as a brilliant condemnation of religion. I disagree with you that it's only a critique of "christianity of the past". Modern christianity isn't much better.

  26. Incredible work as always!!

    If you're looking for another film to analyse (after Beau is Afraid) I think 2006's "Children of Men" would be a real winner. Lots in that film to be linked to TS Eliot, the nativity, and of course Picaso, even cave paintings, which I suspect is still unexplored in video form. Might be worth a look at "Capitalist Realism" too, as I know that book, though a philosophical text of a sort, references the film and also quite neatly summarises a lot of the British middle-class anxieties in the late 2000's which were different, though similar, to anxieties today.

    Sorry, don't want to be rude and suggest things if you aren't interested; just a bigger and bigger fan with each piece of your work and keen to see more! Thanks for the amazing analyses anyway.

  39. 15:00 Bull. Of course it was done in the name of persecuting women. The whole thing started because one man, Heinrich Kramer, hated women so much he singlehandedly invented the idea of widespread witchcraft as an excuse to persecute them! The dude was such an incel that even the Catholic church told him to cool it with the misogyny. He then wrote the Malleus Maleficarum out of spite and it unfortunately became incredibly popular, because now people had someone to blame for their misfortunes.

    It's unbelievably dismissive and reductive of you to claim these people weren't sexist, as well as to claim this isn't a feminist film.
