Chinese attempts to influence British politics are 'systemic', says shadow cabinet minister



Shadow home secretary Chris Philp is asked about Chinese attempts to influence political life in the UK, which he describes as “systemic”.

Recently a Chinese businessman – described as a “close confidant” of Prince Andrew, and who also met two former prime ministers – was barred from entering the UK over national security risks.

Mr Philp said Beijing has been engaging in “organised and systemic attempts to influence political life” in the UK for “many years”, calling it “deeply concerning”.
