  1. If you place the rotor first, then 2-3 conveyor connectors, then the pistons with a conveyor connector to connect the drills to, while the rotor spins everything (pistons & drills at the top), you can have welder arms (at the bottom) to weld up the floor for you as they spin around.

    Instead of routing the ejector tubes under the platform, use reinforced conveyors IN the platform, and then turn down just outside of the rock.
    You can replace them with regular armor blocks later if you decide to get rid of the ejector system.
    If you keep them, you won't have tubes blocking platform access and you don't have to deform the rock face below the platform to eject the rock/gravel.

    You can build a piston/drill unit in the center to catch the stone missed by the outer 4.
    Just build it shorter than the outer 4 (at least the length of a drill) so the central one never interferes with the others.

    Using an Event Controller (or several) you can have it detect when all the drills in a sub-grid are full, and stop all the pistons.
    When your refineries start to catch up and the drills aren't all full, the pistons can resume.
    Just be sure to stop the central drilling unit pistons too (if you build one) so that it can't catch up/pass the outer 4.

  2. wow that is a lot of stone lol there is a mod for gravel that turns it into more ores like gold silver platninum etc it is like a assembler workshop under gravel really like the way you drilling going to be cool base

  3. i cant wait to see how Skye reacts when he finally makes a welding ship that can weld multiple blocks at a time and has a massive inventory. Work that took him 20 minutes will be done in 4 minutes. Plus its fun making different ships for different jobs.

I wasn't going to mention anything so you could explore and learn on your own… BUT! you should look up how to make some nested (stacked) piston setups that can have 12+ pistons ready for a long boring project. (making it to the top of the mountain). It's a bit of a longer setup, but you'll save time having to grind the whole thing down to stack on more pistons.
    If you feel like saving projects like that for a later date, I'd suggest doing the landing gear and merge block idea Frodrick2 commented.
    Also, not like you'll run into this with your current setup of MASS storage (Well then! I was wrong… I would have never imagined you'd fill up all those cargo containers), but the drill can hold onto materials and when you grind them down you'll hear the UH!, beeeeeeeeep and watch your body flop to the ground as a HUGE rock appears.

  5. Careful with your gravel drop mechanism. Any items you drop will vanish really quickly if the items it spawns replace them bc of the item limit.
    you could also consider a gravel refinery mod, or a mod that allows you to destroy gravel with machines.

  6. I am just happy to see you find your place in a new game. I was «stuck» in an mmo for many years, and today I finally went ahead and uninstalled it. Never felt better. So now I just need to channel my inner Skye to find me a new main game. I am certain I will.

  7. Skye…. You might not need to drill the stone to put in the conveyor pipeline. Try making a blueprint of the pipeline and projecting it into the stone, then use a welding ship to weld it while it's in the stone. 😉

  8. Can you do a drill rig like a combine harvesters head? Where drills spin around a central shaft that’s driving forward while rotating?

    I have no idea how any of this works, just sounds like a funny challenge

  9. Have platforms for ships down the back of the two shaft section like a car elevator storage. Look up Barretts Self Storage. Pinning the drills to the wall, delete the pistons and add more to save drill construction.

  10. Loving the series so far, can’t wait to see how that main chamber comes together!
    Pro tip for long drill rigs, make sure “share inertia tensor” is turned on, and use conveyors to orient each new piston in a circular shape around the first piston, and you’ll gain a ton of length in very little space!
    Just make sure you attach each new piston to the conveyors, and not to the first piston, quite a show when that happens🤣

  11. You need some event controllers to shut off your sytem when your storage gets full. At least 2, I'd think and a control seat. I'm newly addicted myself and have learned a few things watching your progress. 😊ty

  12. You could nest the pistons together. Build 3 retracted pistons up, and a U-turn made of 2 conveyor tubes, then an extended piston down, another U-turn then 3 more retracted pistons up, rinse and repeat so you can go 100+ meters at a time. the retracted pistons extend while the extended ones retract. Just make sure to share inertial tensor on all and make the final position in the center of the hole you're digging.

  13. When I'm clearing a huge cavern base one of the first things I do is set up a system to pull and eject all the gravel, straight down into a very deep pit stops the noise from the impacts bouncing off a hill.
    The temporary solution is a proof of concept and building a full thing would distract away from the main task, there are mods that will refill terrain but you'd still lose the natural look on a cliff face

  14. You could automate the entire process of drilling tunnels with machines that build themselves as they move. You could drill the entire core out while building it as it moved up. If you would like I can help show you how to do this, but there are examples of 'creeper' machines like this
