Bonjour Germany – Episode 10 (1900's) – French Long Campaign

Seems the Germans have remebered they are also at war with us and/or they noticed that their allies don’t have any ships. Anyway it seems they have started to send ships down the Channel and into the Med…

  1. " 'Captain, they cry, the fight is done / They bid you send your sword.' / And he answered, 'Grapple her stern and bow. They have asked for steel. They shall have it now; / Out Cutlasses and board!' "

From "The Ballad of the Clampherdown" by Kipling.

  2. These are the hull classifications used by the USN during WWII, Excluding CC, which was what the Lexington class was originally ordered under. As they never completed as battlecruisers, the USN never used the designation in practice, later reusing the symbol for "Command Cruisers"
    DE: Destroyer Escort
    DD: Destroyer
    CL: Ligth Cruiser
    CA: Heavy Cruiser
    CB: Large Cruiser
    CC: Battlecruiser
    BB: Battleship
    CVE: Excort Carrier
    CVL: Light Carrier:
    CV: Fleet Carrier
    SS: Submarine
There were others for various auxiliary vessels, transports seaplane carriers etc. But these are the main types.

  3. I'm surprised that after all this time the devs still haven't modelled ramming even remotely correctly. They should get to that eventually, if just for the sake of these early year ships.

  4. There are literally dozens of USN hull classifications. Some of which were reused. For instance, CV(N)-6 for Enterprise after she was refit for night operations and CVN-65, her nuclear powered successor.

  5. yeah, in case you didn't see the comments before, don't leave ships on ai control like screen/follow etc. they tend to do stupid things. if you're not gonna bother micro manage them, at least put torpedo avoidance on so they can dodge torpedo, not ignore them and get hit by them.

  6. I wonder what sort of mischief the Admiral Aube could cause if all her 2" guns were firing picric acid shells…. >;)

As it is clearly the Pommern essentially got nipped to death by all those 2" QF guns with help from a periodic punch to the face from the 7" weapons.

  7. Gun-shell penetration power seems very inconsistent lately. Sometimes 7” guns absolutely wreck battleships. Sometimes they can’t get through a cruiser. 9” guns seem generally completely worthless.

  8. Rail and coil guns currently have been a bust relying on unobtanium to be practical. A weapon that destroys itself in the process of firing doesn't appear to have much of future at this point. A real working rail gun would also render any practical armor irrelevant.
And dear BrotherMunro, Boomers are weapons of mass destruction and the ultimate deterrent and not sea control vessels as are BBs, CGNS, DDGS, FFGs and CVNs. As hard as the nukeheads have to tried to find a tactical role for nuclear weapons, they have yet to convince anyone that they can do anything but force an instant cease fire/sanity check or escalation leading to burning the world down. None of the nuclear powers have been willing to use nukes even in conflicts where their enemies were not nuclear capable.

  9. A small but important feature i would like, is the option to pay back your allies for the loss of there ship has a gesture of good will, or refuse to pay and incure a temporary diplomatic penalty with them, mainly because it feels like when an allie join a battle it is free canon fodder.without any draw back.
