Sophia Lekiachvili, 18, died last February in Dekalb County, Georgia when the car driven by her friend crashed. The district attorney says that friend Hannah Hackemeyer, 18, was driving drunk. The parents of one of their friends, Sumanth Rao and Anandita Rao, are now charged with involuntary manslaughter for Sophia’s death after the DA said they allowed the teens to drink at their home. In 2005, a law was passed in Minnesota, that charged the person surving alcohol with a crime to anyone under 21 years of age. If someone serves alcohol to a person and they leave your house while driving a vehicle and ends up injuring or killing another person will be charged with manslaughter, as well as the driver of the vehicle.
I’m happy they’re holding them accountable. If parents want to be “cool” with a party house, it shouldn’t be hard to take everyone’s keys… that’s what my folks did
.046 is NOT DRUNK. Age does not change when someone is drunk. Dum law.
That’s why you can’t be a cool adult….. you have to be responsible and think about all possible repercussions especially when kids are involved. These parents definitely have to be prosecuted for not stopping their daughter from drinking as well as then getting behind the wheel of a car (with a bottle 🤬).
If you are capable of bringing a child into the world then you have to ensure that they grow up knowing and doing what is right!
We had a party house back in the day, but nobody drove drunk, people spent the night.

Dont make the victim sound so innocent, she as well was drinking and knew her friend was drinking, its sad she passed away nobody deserves this but let this be a lesson to teens and young adults "dont drink and drive, dont get in a car with ppl who have been drinking".

A bar is licensed to serve adults in their place of service. Parents are not licensed to serve minors in their home. They let the party happen. They let those kids drink.

The parents are absolutely responsible as is the drunk driver, but also so is anyone else getting in that car knowing the driver was drunk even if they were drunk themself…
When I was 16 and in high school, me and my friend went to a graduation party, the mom knew we were there. She knew we were drinking all night then told us we had to leave. We weren’t even supposed to be there because our parents did not know we were there. So we ended up getting in the car driving it and getting a DUI but to this day, I can’t understand why she would let us leave and make us drive home instead of calling our parents, knowing we were drunk and 16. I mean, I know I was definitely in the wrong but now I’m a parent and I just can’t imagine sending kids drunk and driving.

My house was the "party house" too. Alot of my friends parents were like that too. I think it stemned from a fear of us driving drunk (we'd have to stay at whatever house we drank at) & the fact that the parents were in thatcrowd growing up too. I'm not defending these ppl but this defense attorneys prejudgement as to the parents guilt is exactly why you should choose a defense attorney wisely, if they don't believe in your innocence or what you tell them, then they will not look out for your best interests or fight for you as hard as they should. I think it's safe to say if you get a dwi or dui she wouldn't be the attorney to pick. Let me explain, I got a dui for simply telling the ambulance driver my prescriptions, however I hadn't taken the benzo med in 3 days as I only took when needed. The officer wrote a dui AND called cps, my child and license was taken, thankfully my blood was taken in the ambulance, more thankfully my child didn't have a scratch. It took 6 months for my bloodwork to come back as CLEAN for court but my attorney didn't believe me until seeing the results, it's very important to have an attorney that doesn't go in with a "guilty, they deserve it mindset". I'm not saying the parents here have no blame, I'm saying we honestly don't know yet if they truly knew and allowed the teens to leave its innocent until proven guilty and I always reserve my judgment bc of my own experience but I also let ppl know it is important not to speak to police even if you're innocent (I didn't think telling the truth was going to ruin my life) but also important to pick an attorney that believes and will fight for you. I just wrecked no alcohol or meds involved so I understand this is completely different and tragic I can't imagine how the teens parents of the girl that lost her life feels. I just don't want anyone to pick biased attorneys as I did before firing mine and getting an amazing attorney and unfortunately this lady reminded me of the attorney who passed judgment on me without the facts, I pray this girls family gets the justice they want and find peace one day.
