Quantum shmuantum. Try temporal tech. Can't defeat that which is out of synch with reality up until it make contact with your ship. Especially when it travels faster than light by simply slowing down time.
I hope we held some secrets back. The council has proven themselves to be evil. They have subjugated several races and stripped their planets resources so you cannot trust them.
