I've ordered the boxset, the new sculpts looks good. But I dont buy from Forgeworld as I dont like resin & I think they are overpriced. I dont think the boxset is suitable to draw a lot of new younger players into MESBG, its multi part models with a lot of assembly required. I doubt the film will be a great success either.
Seems really risky to just revamp lotr when the lastest stuff is the amazon show and the new movie coming in a couple weeks. Like yea if the new movie is good it can bring in an audience immediately, but just seems like an unnecessary gamble.
I bought into MESBG with the box sets/movies. Took a long break (kids are expensive. Who knew?). Bought Osgiliath and every supplement available except match play. Why? ….. The game is so stable, you never really have to worry about being "obsoleted".
My current "project" is being able to play Quests of the Ringbearer. Sold my Magic cards to finance buying all necessary models.
I was kinda of excited.
I won't be pre-ordering.
Why?
Sarissa precision had a bunch of stuff 50% I need for DMH, and the rest 20% off.
GW discounters generally have the same discount 24/7/365. Christmas time, budgets are tight. Probably buy it in February or something.
Picked me up a box of rhorrim and hill tribes men
A movie about a female warrior character who gets one line of mention in the story. Unnamed at that. Yeah… I'll pass. Next.
The new miniatures look good. The new rules seem generally positive. My only complaint is the new army building. From what I've seen it's stupidly restrictive and unfun. I'll be holding off on the new edition until and unless GW fixes the army lists.
.
The new animated show is tripe. Love the Eagles though.
Not excited for this at all and I play Rohan and have been thinking about starting Dunland for awhile.
Could just be burnout from GW coming out with new editions for EVERY game in the last 18 months and me playing too many different systems….
Personally, I am positive about the new edition of MESBG. I agree that the current edition is very well balanced, but there are also things that need to be changed.
From what I hear in my community, people have mixed feelings about the new starter, mainly because of the new film, but if we want new people in the hobby, we have to reach them somehow, and films from 20 years ago (even though great) may not be the best way. Times change and we have to adapt.
When it comes to models, many people have armies that they like and have been playing with them for x years, so a lot of people did not order starters, only manuals (including me).
In short, we will wait and see and it is better to be positive than negative 😀
Lots of new items especially liked the LOTR items. If the suggested Trump import tariffs come into effect, all these kits will become even more expensive.
