#DOAG . Death of a Game is a series dedicated to uncovering the mysteries surrounding the death of a game or company. nerdSlayer defines the term “death” in the context of the show as either… 1. Literally dead. 2. Had a mass exodus of players and never recovered (expectations etc). 3. The company ceased to exist. We follow a timeline of events, to uncover clues concerning why a game or company doesn’t do well, and attempt to put it all together at the end for a deduction explaining how or why the game failed based on the evidence gathered.

  2. The European Citizens' Initiative just cleared the seven country requirement but we still need a lot of signatures. If you are an EU citizen please consider signing the initiative. It really takes no time at all especially if you have an eID.

  4. Destiny and The Division will be dead soon too
Always Online for games when you can play alone is a death sentence
    This need to end NOW

Destiny The Division Godfall can work offline if the dev care about video game preservation

  5. I'm sorry but as a detective you did not do your job well with this case. This is gonna be a long comment but I hope anyone who actually cares about the case reads it.

You are largely misrepresenting the game's multiplayer functionality. I don't know who told you about this thing you keep calling "FreeDrive", but what you're actually referring to is 2 new gamemodes in the Wild Run expansion: "FreeDrive Stunts" and "FreeDrive Challenges", stunts is just a stunt minigame mode in freeroam, and challenges is a little custom race route creator mode. It is absolutely not what you made it out to be, and you are clearly unaware about these 2 crucial points throughout the video: Ever since the game existed, you could form Crews with friends or random players you meet, with up to 4 players. You could also play every single mission or activity with other players, even the ENTIRE story campaign. You could also match-make with random players when starting a story mission if you aren't in a crew. This has always existed in the game and was not any sort of post-launch content.

Having 8 players in your game at a time is ridiculous and makes it hardly an MMO, yes, but what you're neglecting to mention is that it was their drop in-drop out multiplayer system, which games use to this day, large player count FiveM servers use the same system today, where the game simply loads X amount of nearby players instead of all at once. You could keep driving and finding new players seamlessly.

Your detectives have also completely missed one invaluably crucial piece of the story: shortly after the game came out in december 2014 (or maybe it started even earlier), Ubisoft started trying to buy out Ivory Tower, as they were only publishing the game and didn't own the studio, and while they ended up officially doing so around the release of the Wild Run DLC, they already started doing massive damage to the studio shortly after release, they laid off tons of staff, lots of whom were veterans (also meaning expensive), and replaced them with a bunch of rookie developers for cheaper labor. One of the IVT devs who was hired during the development of Wild Run joined our The Crew Unlimited discord server and spilled the beans on lots of info, most prominent of which being: Wild Run was an intentional aggressive rebrand to dump the brand and identity of the original product, to make it look, feel and sound completely different (ultimately ending up with The Crew 2 in the end), in fact they even told them to intentionally ruin the game's graphics and handling in order to make the upcoming future sequel to look better, which as someone who messes with The Crew 1's files and data a lot I can absolutely confirm. They have done an insane amount of malicious and irreparable damage to the game's graphics, physics, even the world, removing tons of content from it, the TCU discord have a channel entirely dedicated to listing the horrible downgrades done by Wild Run and they're still finding atrocious downgrades 2 years later, the Watch Dogs E3 downgrade is nothing compared to what they did with Wild Run. And offline mode: they always had their own developer offline mode (remnants of it can be found via hacking the game to this day), they meant to release the game with offline mode or at least patch it in later, but ubisoft kept giving them the run-around and not letting them, until at some point they just ended up not doing at all, and just dumped the first game and went on to work on the 2nd instead.

Ubisoft put their targets on Forza Horizon as their big competitor, ever since FH2 in 2014, so their plan was to just have a big racing franchise to compete with forza, they spared no time to instantly start mangling and reforming The Crew into a forza competitor shortly after it's 2014 release, Wild Run was a direct lead-up to The Crew 2, and then The Crew Motorfest is absolutely blatantly a forza clone. The writing was on the wall since Wild Run in 2015. Ubisoft didn't care at all for The Crew's original long-live service/MMO CarRPG vision and completely destroyed it.

    Other corrections for the video:
    – "Leagues" is the ranking system they have for PvP, there are 4 levels per 4 tiers -> Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum. You gain rank by being among the winners, and lose rank by being among the losers at the end of each PvP game.
    – The Crew's Fast Travel option is only available in areas you've already driven in. As a new player you will have to manually drive to each area you haven't been to, which is by default everywhere. This is absolutely logical as forcing the player to constantly drive though a map as enormous as The Crew's is ridiculous.
    – The Crew 2 did not improve the graphics at all and has always been notoriously known for how much worse they are, even comparing to the Wild Run downgrade, I can't even imagine where anyone read this piece of misinformation from.
    – The Crew 2's map was not smaller and more curated, it was the same size but notoriously worse quality and detail, and is missing tons of details and life and care that the original game had (which you also misrepresented earlier in the video by making it sound like TC1's world is dead and lifeless which couldn't be further from the truth)
    – I'm not sure if you meant to make it sound like Test Drive Unlimited has a bigger map than The Crew, but that is absolutely not the case, TDU's map is 618 mi2, while The Crew's (and 2's) is ~3700 mi2. The Crew Motorfest's is a laughably tiny 77.2 mi2 for comparison. (You can't really expect to load into a map that's over 3000 mi2 and see all players at once can you?)

EDIT: Removed my "correction" that says there was 12 mil copies sold, my apologies, I keep misremembering "players" for "sales", your head doesn't work well when you get to my age

  6. If they say licensing is a issue why us it that I can go on steam and still buy the old nfs games like need for speed most wanted 2012 nfs rivals or nfs 2015 I even bought srs racing from gog and midnight club la on the 360 before the online store was shut down both those games where alot older than the crew. So that reason of expired license i call bullshit on
