We’re 1 month away from Christmas and, as the Canada Post strike lingers, the window is closing on restoring mail service in time to get cards, letters and presents delivered

Canada Post is dumb. I don't know if they realize it but I'm getting deliveries from Amazon that normally Canada Post would be delivering. That's right Amazon. I got a delivery from Amazon and I didn't deliver from Amazon so I imagine Amazon is now delivery which used to be Canada Post. You guys are stupid. Wrong time to go strike
They really should just scuttle the entire company and sell off the assets to cover their debts. The company is losing hundreds of millions per quarter yet these union members still expect massive increases in pay. I say let them hack it in the real world and see how they like it.
Canadians are non too appreciative of Canada Post striking right before Black Friday and the Christmas season. They put a lot of businesses at risk because they rely on the 4 weeks from Black Friday to Boxing Day to make their year. The union has zero concern for all those businesses and employees while they attempt to shame Canadians into supporting them. Not a great way to make friends. Their jobs require no skill, no experience, no education, and the only way they can be stressful is if the individual can’t handle regular stress to start with. Despite this, they believe they are entitled to be compensated similar to professionals.
Notice how they word all their rhetoric as well. “We just want to work in a safe environment, to be paid fairly, and to retire with dignity.” Well isn’t that all just cozy and cute. The problem is that it doesn’t mention any specifics; such as them turning down a very reasonable raise of over 10% because they want over double that. And what sort of dangerous work environment are they talking about? Family pets…. “Retire with dignity” means that they want a nice juicy pension without them having to pay for it. What other minimum wage job provides a pension??
In my opinion, the company should withdraw their latest offer, offer them what they were getting before the strike, and tell them they have ten days to agree to it or else the business is closing down forever.
Very well said! You have and inside scoop at canada post don’t ya?
This is very funny how these ignorant and selfish people are all of sudden up in arms against the striking canada post workers.
While during the pandemic it was only canada post delivering their mail, welfare cheques and keeping the economy moving. Even if it meant sacrificing their own lives. Back then the same canada post workers were getting all the praises. Now that these same workers decide to exercise their constitutional rights they’re being called out.
Shame on all of you who are ignorant about democracy because of your selfish motives. Let these workers go on strike to fight for their cause. If you can’t understand them. Look back during pandemic and ask yourselves why do they have to risks their lives to deliver my mail.
Id fire them all and give the jobs to people who want to work …they always want more more . Tell fn government to lower the cost of food and rent then there won't be any strikes.
They pull this shit every Christmas! They can piss off and find real jobs.
Let them stay out for the winter.
WARNING ⚠️‼️
It’s not if, but when AI robotics replaces the cost inefficient human aspect of mail sorting and package handling at Canada Post will we be able to celebrate everyday without disruptive worker interventions.
Canada Post Covid
Thanks for wrecking my grandkids Christmas
It's hard to believe that so many of these commenters are so clueless. The union's demands are more than fair. Let me break it down for you:
1) Changing the pension is a dirty move from the corporation. The current pension is thriving to the point that CP hasn't even had to pay into it for 2 years. They want to change it so they can essentially gamble/play with the pension money, putting future employees at risk of leaving with less.
2) The demanded wage increase would only put us at par with other delivery companies.
3) The corporation is "losing" money because CP is mandated to serve all Canadians from coast to coast. The remote rural areas are not cost effective to serve, but it is CP's duty to do so. If you believe that a private company wouldn't jack up prices for everybody, you are delusional.
4) Much of the "losses" that CP claims are actually strategic investments. They cry poor every time they come to the negotiating table. This is on purpose, as just this year they have invested 100's of millions of dollars into new processing plants and vehicle fleets.
5) Unless you are in the top 1%, you should be pulling for the union. Any win for the working class is a win for all of the working class. Let's set the standard that employees should be fairly compensated, and shouldn't bear the weight of making things more cost effective for large corporations.
I have my flight to my home and these guys have my passport 😢
Do they know the importance of people emergencies 😔ircc won’t respond to calls if anyone know how to contact Ottawa passport office please help me out 😔
where are the honking cars
People keep complaining about them and their wages, not realizing that the bigger picture is how much canada post is taking away with their benefits and pension. Don't mock cupw strikes. I'm sure a lot of you and your wives enjoy having paid maternity leave thanks to them.
Those mother need go back to work
Currently, Canadapost is holding my mail in transit. Since strike happened, I don’t even know where is it and when can I receive it.
Why are you guys holding my mail as hostage for your bargaining power?
That’s my more than 3k online order, and that’s my hard working money. 😢
Mother
To all you LAZY 55,000 postal workers…GET THE FUCK BACK TO WORK, YOU MAKE ENOUGH MONEY YOU GREEDY FUCKTARDS….Sincerely every Canadian who's Xmas might be ruined.
I just want my dirtbikes gasket kit so i can go brapping in the snow. Fuck sakes. Whys there always gotta be strikes the rare times i order shit from the states
postal workers need a reality check. our lives are digital now and mail isn't what it was 50 years ago. robots could easily replace these workers. they should be happy they have a job in this economy. no sympathy for their cause from me. I'm waiting for drone delivery combined with starlink I could live anywhere.
Oh noooo how are the poor kidos gonna get their beloved letters to Santa!! Maybe they can try delivering by reindeer instead with priority mail by rudolph? Their logo shares his nose color after all!
They have wages and benefits most of us can only dream of!
This has costed me money and im getting pissed.
Get your lazy asses back to work!
Like our country doesn't have enough problems now these nuts think they can hold us hostage at a vulnerable time.
Life sucks so suck it up and get back to your already over waged jobs!
While i feel for them, theyre detering job security with this strike. Online retailers are going to find alternative carriers with rates AND reliable service 🤷🏼♀️
Get back to work !!!! Who's going to pay the interest on bills that will arrive late for the elderly , fire anyone who doesn't want to work, hire the ppl that do
Imagine working for a company that is $3Billion in the hole and going to your boss and asking for a 24% raise over 4 years! That is totally unreasonable and the federal government needs to step in and force them back to work!
I'm a unionized federal employee and would never agree to such an extreme demand! Most Postal workers don't require any special skills or education. Why do they feel that they deserve such a ridiculous wage increase at a time when majority of people are broke? And to hold Canada hostage over the holidays is a disgusting tactic! I am done supporting Canada Post!
Did he just say they asked for a 24% increase in wages?
😂😂😂
Dr. Seuss How The Canada Post Stole Christmas boo to you, maybe everyone should start using courier services, no wonder Canada Post is so far in debt, As of 2023, Canada Post has $1 billion in current loans and borrowings, with $500 million due in 2025. The company needs at least $1 billion in new borrowings or other liquidity measures to meet its needs in 2025.
Canada Post has been losing money since 2018, with total losses of $3 billion over the last six years. In 2023, the company reported a pre-tax loss of $748 million, which was an increase from the $548 million loss in 2022. Canada Post's annual report predicts that the company will continue to experience large losses in the future unless it makes significant changes to its operating model. keep this up and soon there won't be a Canada Post.
Trudeau and his totalitarian regime are the cause of this strike in the first place. His government has billions of dollars for Zielinski and the Ukrainian war, but nothing for Canadians or those that live on our streets. His spending like a drunken sailor and his BS carbon tax has driven inflation to an all time high. All workers in this country are going to need substantial wage increases just to make ends meet. The people that are saying negative comments about the postal workers strike must not go into the grocery stores or fill their vehicles with gasoline. For the love of God butter is at eight dollars a pound. I have no dog in this fight, I’m retired. What I do know is, these men and women have the right to fight for a decent wage, benefits, as well as pension improvements. Oh just in case anyone is wondering, I’m a diehard conservative.
But I also strongly believe in fair and collective bargaining. So my fellow Canadians buckle up your chinstraps because there are going to be a lot more strikes that will be coming our way soon.
Get back to work mf's
I'm Canadian and I do not support the Canadian postal strike, did you a poor job did you not meet job standards, they couldn't properly deliver parcels if they were given direction, I am completely disappointed and ashamed of Canadian postal workers, you choose to do this to Canadians not to do this for yourselves you're doing this to Canadians at a time of the year that they needed you. I hope you all have no job to go back to
