  1. it will not be able for humans to live, multiply and grow old on Mars for al long time to come, if ever. There will be to manny hurdels, it is to hostle and it will not be a free communiuty. It will be a dystopia.

  2. I have this idea of drilling deep down for martian water and it erupting the same way as oil in oil drills. Do you think this would be a cheap and efficient solution to increase the density of the atmosphere, seeing as it would automatically turn into vapor in that low pressure?

  3. This is why we need a Moon base first to test and evaluate these systems and second to build up data on low gravity environments. We have data on 1G and zero G, nothing in between. You will not live on the surface. The living quarters will have to be underground to protect from long term exposure to radiation. Another issue will be the ratio of male to female. I have worked at McMurdo Station Antarctica and other similar places. The female population is less than 30%, also it is rather interesting women are either under 25 years of age or over 45 years of age. If this is to become a Permanent Settlement that will have to change.

  5. The majority of the scientific community have for the last several years concluded that terraforming of Mars will NOT happen. The planets weak gravity combined with other factors makes Terraforming impossible. Catch up with the overall science of Mars before you start making blanket statements.

  6. I heard of a recent study done on mice, exposing them to the same levels of radiation for the same amount of time it would take to travel to Mars. What they discovered was that with the prolonged levels of radiation combined with the effects of micro-gravity, the mice's kidneys were permanently damaged. Anyone making the journey today from Earth to Mars would require dialysis for the rest of their life.

  7. The thing is, that all of that terraforming, and oxygen, and lakes, blah, blah, blah, sounds great. However, you forgot one thing. There is zero magnetic field around Mars, as there is on Earth. Meaning that there is literally zero protection from the sun's radiation. You could maybe create an ozone layer in time, but that is mostly only uv protection. Plus, don't forget that the atmosphere is only one-percent the thickness of that of Earth's. The magnetosphere is produced by the flowing liquid iron, around the Earth's core. Mars used to have one, too, but it cooled, and hardened billions of years ago, thereby ceasing Mars's magnetosphere, and leaving it completely unprotected from the sun's radiation. Without that protection from radiation, none of the shit in this video is possible. One solar flare, and instead of some pretty northern lights, like we see here on Earth, Mars will pretty much get f**ked, as I'm sure it does all the time, currently. It just doesn't matter, cuz there is no life, there…most likely bc of the absence of a magnetosphere. Apparently, there used to be one, billions of years ago, and that's when Mars had water, and possibly life. When that shit stopped, well, that's when Mars became what it is, now. A vast, cold, windy, uninhabitable, carbon-dioxide, dust-storm ridden, thin, shitty atmosphere havin', radiation filled shit-hole…and we wanna LIVE THERE?! The absence of atmospheric pressure is a thing, too. You would feel like you are being like, "expanded", kinda like in space, but not nearly as severe. Enough to suck, though… literally, lol. Like that scene in, "Total Recall", with The Arnold, (Well, that was certainly a bit of an exaggeration, but it would be somewhat accurate. Just add pretty much not being able to breathe, and freezing to death, pretty quickly). Yes, eventually Earth will become uninhabitable, but even then, it won't be nearly as uninhabitable as Mars will be. In about a billion years, the sun will be at the end of its life, anyway, and NO planets, (or even moons, fot that matter), in our solar system will matter. Unless we figure out how to travel to other solar systems, with active suns, and then find a planet or moon that resides in it's sun's, "inhabitable zone", humanity will not survive, if we even last another however many years without destroying ourselves, (thanks, Putin). To me, we definitely have a shelf-life, no matter how you look at it. Even if we live on some sort of spacecraft, we will eventually run out of resources. Pretty much, we are probably gonna go out like the dinosaurs. We came up with the concept of, "God", bc we are an imaginative species. The sad truth, I personally believe, is that once this planet goes, or most likely way before that, we will just be another species that came, and went. Damn, how nihalistic am I, lol? But I guess it is, what it is…and it sucks. The End. Literally.

  8. billions spent by NASA to design stuff that will NEVER reach this planet…imagine the amount of trips to bring hardware & materials…just the surviving/breathing gear to even start building anything useful for life ,the tools ,the materials ,food & oxygen generators…..this will never happen…

  9. I don't think communication will be any problem at all, it will just be like emailing someone. Both sides will just have to make sure they put as much detailed information into their messages as possible in order to reduce the number of times they have to go back and forth to each other.

  10. Sending humans to live on Mars doesn't make much sense. It's far easier to send robots since they don't need food, crops, air, medical facilities, psychological care, families, etc. If we alter the genetics of people sent to Mars, they wouldn't be human anymore. The issue with human space exploration is that we must bring an Earth-like environment wherever we go, and we can't keep bringing"our planet" with us.

  11. Heat won’t be lost very fast with 1% atmosphere to draw the heat away. The you need a medium for heat to dissipate to. An atmosphere or body of fluid. The denser the medium, the better to dissipate heat making something cold.

  12. Ummmmm… we military vets ate the same rations the astronauts eat for months on-end in austere conditions, no air-conditioning, combat conditions. If soldiers can do it so can the 1st Mars settlers. But, some greens, fruit, fresh grains would be appreciated!

  13. Surely Mars has natural caves we could build habitats in.. I wouldn't be surprised if we send a cave rover to investigate potential cave systems eventually. Imagine all of the supplies that could be taken to Mars instead of walls, floors, and roofs etc.
