I'm pretty sure that he had designs on leaving but wanted the family to have the benefit of a life insurance payout I think it's pretty simple. Although I'm not sure he even had life insurance I'm just new to this story

He didn't want to deal with his family's anger/tears. He's a sociopath. He doesn't look engaged with his family in any of the pictures. He doesn't touch them. He could easily be a neighbor/friend of the family/distant cousin.
If they could get the phone he used to make the video, they wouldn't need to track and trace.

probably got scam by women ,ended up lost all money and the relationship, and too shamed to admit gave up his own family .

First off He appears like a foreigner or first gen. to America soil, He also clearly able to communicate with a Russian speaking women. & appears to be near “retirement-age”!
