Craziest episode!
I wouldn't call it evil odo exactly, or the female changeling evil exactly. The founders are more apathetic and in some ways thats worse than being evil. They want order for their own protection and don't particularly care how it gets done. Reminds me a bit of middle management of the SS. Most of the major players in the holocaust were largely apathetic about what they did, didn't particularly care if the jews got deported or killed, got told to kill them and just sort of shrugged and did it. Might even be the inspiration the writers used for when developing the founders. I mean the specifics might be different but its the same general attitude and mentality
Every time I watch people experience DS9 for the first time, it reminds me of why it's my favorite Star Trek series and why Sisko is my favorite captain.

Probably Marc Alaimo's greatest acting in his entire career. The way he portrays Dukat as he is falling apart is magnificent, just incredible to watch.
Dukut would throw Ziyal out like trash for disobeying him… But is still desperate for someone to adore him and see his moment of success… Like Trump in that way. If Putin was the Dominion. Except Trump is more a failed Ferengi than Cardassian (although that's an insult to Ferengi)
Fun trivia: Casey Biggs (Dumar) and Chase Masterson (Leeta) were actually dating during this point in the series. So when Dumar told Leeta "you certainly don't (have anything to hide)", it was a bit of an inside joke with the writers about the "happy couple" lol

The Battle of Britain took place during world war II
The battle in this second episode remains one of the best in the entire franchise. We never had anything like it before this, with tons of Starfleet ships mixing with loads of other ships in a big battle. You had Galaxy Class, Nebula Class, Miranda Class, Excelsior Class, Akira Class, Peregrine Class, Centaur Class and Defiant Class. It sure was jaw-dropping, as a lifelong fan of the franchise.😲👏😎

I miss Barry Jenner. William Ross was the one competent, non-corrupt admiral.
The acting abilities shown and the epic scale DS9 managed to reach, l wish l was a child all over again because this era was as a child truly peak Star Trek in every way possible. Couldn't be more apart from these past few years of what Star Trek on the tv has offered, alas the likes of DS9 we won't get ever again but why that era was so special.
My dad and I watched this show and re-watched. It is kinda cool that whatever happens to Sisko's baseball predicts the future.
That scene by Mark Alaimo was award winning! He was so so convincing, its so real you can just feel, really feel what hes saying!

This may be heartless but I always wondered why the Klingons joined the battle. Strategicly they should've gone straight at DS9 while the Federation was tying up the Dominion and Cardassian fleets.

The Emissary is of Bajor. Sisko was always of Bajor. "Is he going to lose the Emissary?" Emissary is not something Ben Sisko does, it is not just a role he plays. Sisko IS the Emissary. His very being is Emissary. He can never not be the Emissary.
What's interesting is that even after the lesson of Kirk's engagement with Khan, so many ST battles are two-dimensional. About "the conclusion," don't confuse the battle for the war.

When I first watched DS9 I loved the battles and action but watching the show later on I appreciated the relationships and character moments. Sisko/Jake will remain my favourite father/son relationship.

I don’t think you quite understand the gravity of the situation, when Nog deservedly got that uniform. He now outranks O’Brien.
I feel like Dukat leaving Ziyal to die from a planned exploding Sun is kind of the weird outlier action. Possibly he was so ticked by her liking Garak he wasn't thinking straight. Mostly he is quite a devoted Dad to her, even if his initial plan was to kill her on first seeing her, and her death clearly devastates him. I am a bit amused by you saying her art isn't that good. Truth to be told I have no idea how to judge "modern" art. Added to that they said it showed influences of both Bajoran and Cardassian art, which I have no idea what that should look like as I'm not sure we've ever seen Cardassian art. But looking at it again I can see being unimpressed.
The battle having an almost literal "Deus ex Machina" ending is an interesting choice. There's some commonalities between this series and the later reimagined Battlestar Galactica, Ronald Moore worked on both, and the fusing of science fiction and the almost miraculous being one. I'm Catholic myself, but there are times I find this aspect of DS9 a bit odd. It's not just respecting their religion, their religion has empirical backing. Imagine if God or the gods of a real world religion literally saved the United States or Canada from invasion by making the missiles vanish. I think this would have pretty massive consequences for all the world not just the US. So Bajoran religion's impact is empirically verified and their Prophets do act more like religious figures than the "godlike aliens" they've known. That's kind of good for explaining why secularism on Bajor declined (In the "Circle" eps the military didn't seem to have a problem being at odds with "The Emissary", but at this point Bajorans fighting against Sisko feels inconceivable) but feels like it would have consequences to Federation skepticism as well. But I don't think that's ever explored. Or if it ever makes them wonder.
