The Union for Canada Post workers said Friday its members had begun a nationwide strike as negotiations with the Crown corporation failed.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), which represents some 55,000 postal workers, wants to see, among other demands, increases in line with inflation, cost-of-living adjustment payments and safer working conditions.
In a separate statement, Canada Post said mail and parcels would not be processed or delivered during the strike.

Hilarious feel like every couple of years we are getting massive either shipping or mail disruption causing supply chain issues. Mail strike in 2018, then environmentalists blocking the rail, then covid, then the rail strike, then the port strikes, now this, just an endless loop of this lol
Executives won’t negotiate. Their salaries and bonuses are guaranteed. They own Purolator and a couple other courier services. So they make more money during strike as other couriers get busier.
Not sure why this isn’t a conflict of interest and why bonuses are guaranteed.
Also they have cut pay by more than 15% from 5 years ago then offer 11% of 5 years and they won’t guarantee another pay cut.

Let's talk about the 1000s of truck drivers that work as contractors for Canada post delivering 1000s of letter mail bins and parcels that are stuck in the middle of this, and not to take away from the C.P. workers that do deserve better pay and a safer work place.
It's the truck drivers and contractors that do most of there heavy lifting working 13 hrs a day driving in some of the worst conditions, with no health benefits or union to protect them
There are many other options to send packages and mail domestically and internationally. Yes, couriers are more expensive to send mail, but it’s an option for businesses. Spring GDS delivers US and International mail cheaper than Canada Post. Unfortunately for domestic mail and the average Canadian, it’s legislated that Canada Post can only handle and deliver. If this is changed, then competition will decide who delivers the mail best.
They are paid more than skilled trades who endured apprenticeships and schooling. Get the f to work
We must support them if you ever want to see any of us with a decent wage in the future. I'm retired now and have no connection with Canada Post, but live in small town Canada and I really appreciate the dedication and professionalism of our Canada Post office and it's carriers. We have loggers and mine workers that are making 4 times as much as them and nobody says anything about them and the out to lunch lumber prices we are paying. Truck drivers earning upwards of $800 per day and so on. These CP workers have families and children and want a decent wage to survive this mess we're in today. They want to be able to feed and clothe their children, save for a post secondary education maybe. Believe me they are not getting rich on what Canada Post pays them. Especially today. I feel for those who are in the food bank lines and struggling…it's everywhere and it's so very sad. But to attack our postal workers or their unions as their voice is un-called for. Attack this treasonous government. Canadians deserve better!
Fire them and hire new people who need, then they’ll see how their experience pans out

The union unfortunately treats union dues as their own personal piggy bank sending members on trips and educational for social justice causes , which could be done over zoom or Skype since it’s not 1987 anymore… they are their own worst enemies on both sides of the fence.

This is classic CUPW; go on strike at the start of the holiday season and hold the public at ransom. They've done this multiple times in the past but I thought they'd have more sense today. Let's just privatize Canada Post or designate it an essential service.
I just started working for Canada Post and was happy to do the job for my wage and now I'm forcibly on strike without pay. This isn't my choice, but I have to participate in this dumb strike. As an mail carrier who just wants to work, I'm not happy about this either.
On the other side I can see why this strike is happening. Higher workloads are being pushed on employees. Many employees never see their families, have no life because they're always working and they're getting no raises for working harder, despite that a raise was promised but never given.
Yeah that will do it.
These government employees get more then enough money they are always complaining they get paid more then the average wage person shut down Canada post and have private mail service simple. Most of the mail is down on line anyways.

People, people. Stop using Canada Post. There are so many other options. E-transfers, UPS, bank transfers, e-cards, private businesses. This greedy union has to be crushed, otherwise it’s going to happen year after year. They don’t want automation, they want 7 day delivery for overtime wages, expect that their retirement will get them a large home with two cars.

Canada post is totally obsolete in the modern world and needs to be dismantled there's plenty of private carriers who can do a much better job than these useless clowns, typical government employees overpaid, lazy and inefficient at the cost of taxpayers.
