You’re a winner with either car
A fabulous post. Thanks. I have a 95 Turbo R. Basically the Spirit with some "Tweeks"😊
The second car looks quite Mercedes-esque on the outside.
For me it would be a Silver Spirit, preferably a Silver Spirit 4.
I remember back in the day when the Lexus LS400 debuted and some car mag pitched it (unfairly imho) up against the Spirit. They summarised with 'what's in a name': one could be a food blender or a hoover but the other could only be a Rolls Royce. At the time I thought they had a point but I wonder now – 30odd years on – how the two would stand up after a lifetime of use…
The silver shadow! Is the always the classic of the dogs bollocks! Wonderful machine! Rx🙏🏽🌹
Wow "the first up" proper presenter then and spoiled it by not saying "next up" with the Spirit.🤭
The amount of misinformation in this video is incredible. The Silver Shadow in this video is a mediocre example, but the Silver Spirit is a bit better, however it has an incorrect steering wheel and road wheels, and a nasty, cheap incorrect sound system.
I expected much better from Classics World.
The LWB Shad, actually came out in 1967, and not 1969, as you stated!
5000 series Camargue
For me
When Rolls looked like a Rolls.
The close up interior shots appear to be a Spirit 2 (4 air vents), the road test was a series one!
I have a 1990 Spur II, a wonderful car. Thanks for the great review.
Can you do a comparison of the SZ convertibles – Corniche vs. Azure ?
The Silver Spirit is a completely new car structurally.
Just compare the glass area and the roof line as well as the width in the side by side shots.
Yes indeed many mechanical details were carried over.
US customer clinics thought the Shadow small in comparison with US premium brands so RR upscaled the body for a greater parking lot presence.
I prefer the shadow (I’m a little bit older than you are!) but both are gorgeous and way way more elegant than todays’ RRs. End of an era for sure. Thxs for the lovely video!
For my money
A shadow II with the harvey bailey handeling pack, in metallic brown with brown piped magnolia hides please.
The shadow still looks gorgeous after all these years and would always prefer it it over the spirit
The same car under a different skin
Sheer beauty. Enough said. How could I express a preference. I can't. It would be like choosing between Sophia Loren and Ava Gardner.
The problem with the Seraph is the wind noise it makes above 100kmh. Very annoying, but probably ok if used mostly in the city.
The Shadow….always thought the Spirit looked like a big Ford.
I do prefer the Spirit. Since the age of 5 the expression the best car of the world for me means the Silver Spirit. I do not care about those remarks comparing it to Ford. I simply love the shape of the Spirit although I understand why others may like the Shadow more. For me the Spirit also means the end of an era. I am so glad you mentioned it.
Lovely film. Thanks
Quite a few rattles in that Spirit…
Great comparo. thanks. This is a decision I would love to have to make one day. I have measured up the garage and a Shadow or Spirit will fit but a Wraith or Spur are going to have their bum sticking out. I would like a Shadow II or a Spirit III just to get a few updates in each model. Oh well, dream on…….😄
The Bentley turbo R for me
My mum's boss let me drive his Shadow II, when I was a newly minted 17yo driver in the early 1980s, on my way to collect my first car, a 600 quid Allegro. All downhill from there on !
Why was it that new RRs would often have ‘TU’ license plates in their marketing shots back in the day? The books I had as a kid showed frequent examples; from memory ‘3500 TU’ and ‘1850 TU’ would even appear on different cars. There’s an example here at 0:48.
That’s a spirit 2 facelift the dashboard is not an early spirit
I have always wanted to know how good are the headlights were compared to other cars of the same era, i have a 1983 golf so are 1983 RR headlights much better? I would love to have a Shadow 2 in tobacco brown with cream interior.
The Shadow for me, but only by a smidge. I think it's more RR. Cracking video. Thanks!
How about the mb 600
