I had sooo much trouble fighting Gogmozios! What a great boss monster!
With the newest shown area, Wilds will probably be the best chance they have to bring back Gog and have him really fit into the a new game.

If gog was ever going to come back this is the time. I’m hopeful since me and my buddy started in GU and this tar covered boi is near the top of the list of monsters we want to fight. My personal fav is dalamadur.
I'm not convinced Gogmazios will return, while on paper the Oilwell Basin does sound like a fitting place for him. I don't think it would actually work in practice. From what I can glimpse of the area in the trailer is that it looks too small for him to fit. We have to remember that Gogmazios is HUGE and I just don't think he'd fit in the cavern areas, if he did I think it'd only be on all fours (so we probably wouldn't see him stand up). Plus there's all the pipes and other machinery there that would get in his way.
I know that logically, given his size and status as an Elder Dragon, he could just reshape the area to fit him. Knocking down obstacles and just carve his way through the cave areas. But I don't think the devs will be able to implement that much detail into just one locale, for one monster.
I just don't think we'll ever see any of the really big – arena only – Elder Dragons in the regular maps (even in an open world design situation). I think it's probably just easier on the devs to put these kinds of monsters in their own areas, as they can design the area to enhance the fight (working with the monsters lore), like Nakarkos picking out different bones littered in it's arena to use in the fight. Rather than trying to adjust a regular map to fit them.

Imagine what it would be like if after the Firespring starts spreading, Gog is ignited and unphased. Gog is on fire now, that's just part of the fight.
He’s DEFINITELY getting in, especially with the third locale. All the locale is super hot lava, black tar, and old guild technology, which are the three things that create gogmazios.

Ive been praying to see Gogmazios on a real screen for ages, and the oilwell basin IMMEDIATELY brought that hope up again.

The oil squid in the newest trailer that is super oil up gives me hope that Gog will return. One oil monster may just mean we get two oil monsters!
Hot take but screw fatalis, I do not want to see him again in Wilds. He was never meant to be in Iceborne. It's a miracle that such a pivot became a competent/fun hunt… Especially with some of that skeleton crew's track record on World's title updates. The only reason he was in iceborne and got his first fight that wasn't utter dog shit was because of a marketing mistake. All this happened because people got too uppity over a render for that anniversary so the team felt they had to kind of ruin their plans and replace them with that. This means that the team never intended on making his fight good, they'd have let him rot as one of the worst fights in the series, basically forever. If they weren't going to fix it in meaningful ways after a decade and a half. Why the hell would they fix it at all, on their own? As for this other versions, that would be an utter disappointment and really lazy. They are just bad monster concepts and having the final bosses be the same fucker 3 times in a row, with slight changes, would suck. Crimson is just "we lied. He has been beaten before so, fuck your ego, go do it again." White is just "We lied again, turns out the original wasn't anything that mattered and was just a little baby, so go kill the real one now." It's such lame lore and monster design. Don't even get me started on the nonsense of his reputation. TLDR they blew their load way to early and instantly regretted it, and were lazy, so we got 2 more. Every other final boss is superior, especially in creativity. Gogmazios is probably the best of them, at minimum top 3. He's a siege monster sized thing that actually treats you like it's a normal fight, so he has actual aggression. There are other final bosses/spectacle fights that could work but not this well for a final update. Gogmazios could easily have more done to him to make his fight more unique, creative, and a fun final challenge. Tarring the mount is a good idea. I would also love him to have more beam attacks, give him a stance or glow or something that tells you he's swapping from sweeping beams to like gravios beam bullets to rain down on you. It would make where htey are about to hit less predictable but technically cover less of the zone.
It's obvious that if old monsters won't be in base wilds they could be added in title updates and in the DLC.
The instant I saw the Oilwell, I was like "Gogmazios has got to be coming back."
if Gogmazios came back, then the Oilwell Basin WOULD be good place to put him, but…
in 4 Ultimate, he attacked the Battlequarters for Gunpowder, which he eats – one of the few reasons why he'd wake up from a long slumber, really – and the tar is the byproduct of that diet. because of that, i doubt that Gogmazios would be found in the Oilwell Basin, fitting as it is for him.
best i can suggest is to have the expansion take place a year or so after the main story. plenty of time for the construction of a fortress. fortresses have resources, the kind that Lao Shan Lung, Teostra, Gogmazios, and Ahtal Ka would benefit from – food for the first 3, part for the mech in the 4th's case.
come on, there's no reason for Gogmazios to come to base Wilds. and even if that reason was "because he deserves to", it's going to take a very good in-game reason to justify his presence (same with the other 3) like he had in 4U.
our best hope is the expansion, where Elder Dragons tend to become more prominent. and in-game, that would give the people time to construct the theoretical fortress for whatever reason (gather and protect the villagers from the various locales from an insanely powerful monster, as well as resource storage is my suggestion).
sure, in WorldBorne we could run around in Expeditions and the Guiding Lands and kill any dragon we wanted, as many as we wanted; but that's the "small" ones. even in Wilds, with its very wide spaces, we can't do the same for Kulve Taroth and Safi'jiiva (2 siege monsters), now can we? they had good in-game reason to not be wandering around in WorldBorne, such as Safi's destructive effects of hogging all the bioenergy for himself, or Alatreon's desire for a secluded area as his den.
if Lao Shan Lung and Gogmazios returned, what would be the in-game reason to justify their presence in Wilds' overworld, wandering around, untethered to any quest (in the expansion, hopefully)? because the answer of "just because" is a bad one.
let's say Kulve Taroth came back, how do you justify her running around in the overworld? because the way i see it, you can't.

Well Amatsu, Alatreon, Fatalis, Valstrax, and Shagaru Magala all returned in 5th Gen, so I truly believe Wilds, it’s Master Rank expansion, and the 2nd game will all include some returning final bosses over the course of updates. And with the 3rd map I truly believe that Gogmazios will return
One of my favorite things about gogmazios is that he's one of those elder dragons that uses his wings like a 2nd pair of arms, I just think all the elders that work like that are awesome.
My headcanon is that the dragonator on Gogs back is the Commander's. 😂
