They probably could have done something where they kept the Ariel attacks while having the buff attacks but idk. Just felt clunky mainly for me but I can learn it but just don't feel the same.
99% of the new moves don't matter, only charge circle and some small extensions with triangle / standing triangle during reposition. Kinsect attacks while focus mode is on are pointless. Charging Kinsect is more reliable fasters and can gain more extracts than a sloppy Kinsect starting tot he left of a monsters head and missing.
I played 20+ hours Kinsect in the beta, I tried every style from every video every speed run… I even tried to make essence kin sect work with a vault to charged Circle into ground combo. 18+ Minutes.
Every style of play I tried was 15- 20 minutes other than…
Standing Triangle re position charged circle repeat (Some cool nieche moments for other moves like vault over a big lightning strike getting a few hits in then weak spot when the sensors are open on Rey Dau) But thats it
You get one playstyle at the moment.
Similar can be said for almost every weapon IMO
I just don't like holding buttons…. Seems petty, but I never like those types of mechanics. I figure I'll give it another go in February, but it is only one of the 5 weapons I use regularly.
In Worlds I was a Glaive main and I was in the air a lot for evasion, mounting and because it looked cool lol I see what they’re going for in Wilds, I appreciate it, it doesn’t click for me but it has made me test out other weapons and found that I really enjoyed the great sword and the bow. I didn’t get chance to try the hunting horn but that’s another one I’d like to give a shot. If they bring back the aerial stuff to the glaive I’ll probably pick it up again but it was fun to play with the other new toys!
The main problem i have with the IG and the new system at all is the press a button hold and release, i am not a fan of such mechanics, for me personally its to much that to manage at the same time, maybe i just gettting old now but I loved the IG in world and i wasnt spamming helicopter but i loved to use the pogostick attack aka descending thrust. It was sonehow satisfying when you saw your kinsect drilling through a monster 😅
It seems inaccurate to say that the kinsect management is reduced down to the R1 attacks. You can still shoot and guide your kinsect but now you get more options. Also it's a VERY common experience with MH demos that the default kinsect they give us is slow and has low stamina so while it's agonizing to direct the kinsect right now, that's always been the case till we get better bugs
Oh and also I got frustrated with how hard it was to get certain extracts on some monsters till I remembered that you can charge the kinsect to do a pierce attack and gather multiple extracts along its path
Someone who only really got into Monster Hunter when Monster Hunter World released so not gonna act like I know this weapon's playstyle from previous games before then. From my own experience, the ariel combos was something that I felt this weapon had over anything else. Focuses on being in the air constantly and dodging around, hitting monsters with flurries before repositioning in air and either hitting with another flurry or getting onto the monster's back (which felt pretty much like a guarantee with the weapon). No other weapon had that feeling or playstyle like the Insect Glaive had and that's why I played a ton of hours in it and even got into build crafting because of it. While I do agree the buff gains are easier and appreciated at least from myself, I am dissapointed the main draw for someone new to the franchise like myself was just totally removed and tossed out entirely and now just looks and feels more generic. Not entirely without personality of course, but now it doesn't feel like there is an immediate draw to the weapon anymore the way World did and at least for me personally what made me pick it over anything else as my first weapon.
The infinite still works, and the extensions still work if you weave the charged attack with it. You should basically always be charging while you’re doing your attacks either in the air or on the ground. The bounce was the best for me for repositioning or staying in the air with flying monsters. Other than that I had a blast with the new changes and felt great pairing it with the bow!
It's just not the weapon I was looking forward to. I'm don't know if it's even going to be my 4th weapon I play. Coming from my main to not sure if I'll play more than what I did in the beta is big sad😢
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY SON
If you think about it, monster Hunter Wilds, it’s just a upgraded version of monster Hunter 4U with a mix of modern mh
similarity of starting on the ship in the prologue and the lancer back
Insect glaive going to its roots
And if you seen the leaks, you know you know
When it comes to the changes to the insect glaive honestly, I like it way more because it focus on two parts of the weapon insect and the glaive the weapon has more synergy between the two when you’re attacking your insect now extract essence too so you don’t have to constantly fire it out
The only problem that I have with is that the rising spiral slash feels like it could’ve had another combo you had one with the focus right but I feel like after the rising you could squeeze in at descending thrust after to flow back into your ground combo
I do feel the aerial style will probably come back in the expansion
It's the controls that get me. Hopefully they work on it. I actually like the changes, I picked up the IG as soon as it came out in the games because of the Kinsect minion. I want my bug friend to fight with me and we never really got that until Wilds. Rise did some stuff in that regard and even that was amazing so I'm glad to see them pushing it even further. The Jump stuff was fun, but it was never what I really wanted from the weapon the first time I saw it.
Honestly, I just don't like having to lock my camera in one direction while I hold down circle. I just think it's clunky and awkward
For me, I've been in-and-out of love of insect glaive. Overall, loved it in World, hated it in Rise, and back to loving it in the Wilds beta.
I was still buzzing the top of the monsters in wild even if I had to hit the ground between each buzz. I found that still super fun.
Admittedly, I only started using it since World as I never bothered to learn it earlier than that. (Been a gunlance main, with dual blades as runner up, and switch-axe in 3rd).
So, my sample size is much smaller than others, but I personally don't mind the changes so much. Biggest issue with me was I kept forgetting focus mode was a thing, so didn't notice the easy bug element collection and was doing it the hard way the whole beta.
On a side note, in world, when using insect glaive, I almost exclusively used aerial combat and know full well it was the sub-optimal method, but it was too fun to not do!
This issue isn't my biggest weapon issue. Mine are taking away the Charge Blade's instant power ground slam (forgot the axe move name) and taking away the switch-axe's direct zero-sum discharge that Josh mentioned. I loved the direct ground slam and found it the most fun aspect of the charge blade and making it impossible to do the ground slam without the full combo is very annoying and took all the joy out of weapon for me in the beta. Same with the switch-axe with the zero-sum discharge.
If it was a “style” like in GU I would have no issue. Having no choice but to play a new weapon thats like a throwback to glaive just isn’t great. Dont care that aerial is sub par. I liked it.
they took away the downward thrust and that pissed me off,….
Interesting how IG is no longer a stamina dependent weapon and has now become a charge based weapon. Instead of perfect evade it should get an offset attack to match its new play style, possibly aerial based offset???? 🤔
The loss of aerial playstyle plus the gutting of the fluidity of the main combos ig used makes it feel like a dollar store long sword. Having the kinsect be more involved in general gameplay is nice, but wilds ig is a far cry of the weapon i fell in love with in 4U.
My problem with the change is if it really is going to rely so much on focus strikes then I worry as someone who is thinking of maining bow. Having to fight over wounds when I play with randos is going to suck.
New Glaive isn't bad its just not Insect Glaive removing a core segment as if the previous game didn't enhance it sucks. In all honesty they shoulda just added another weapon rather then botching glaive. Tonfa being a main example for a weapon that could have took this new Glaives place.
Nah it’s not better they ruined the glaive. No bounce is the worst offender for me. I loved doing that and lining up diving wyvern on the head
While I understand those that enjoy IG from the 4U days and those that enjoy that play style, as someone that joined in world and continued since the weapon is fundamentally lost one of my favorite mechanics. Having a mounting and aerial style that wasn’t particularly great dps wise and agile ground combos the did a bit more damage, and from what I’ve seen it has been completely reworked to wear it is not the same flow or feeling the other IG has had. The new loop of gather all three extract do the new combo move expending the extract and repeat while good damage and flashing shouldn’t have replaced the world and rise incarnations of the weapon, rather i would’ve hope it just augmented it. So while IG will still be my second weapon in wilds I am very sad that I’ll likely only touch it for cutting tails in my case.
I really dislike the I.glaive, why You have to keep pressing a button to charge an attack in the middle of a combo? And You have to press other buttons to do the combo, for me, instead of hold a button, just press once at the right time like perfect rush of the sns. I didnt have any fun with IG.
So when i tried it i felt that insect glaive was cooler but lacking but then when my friend who is a insect glaive main tried it out, it looked amazing. No joke the weapon is alot better now then it has ever been, having more skill based combat with combo that lead into aerial combos to then do ground combos back into aerials was just amazing to watch my friend pull off.
Think people who see its as downgrade only look at each part of the kit it individually, because when you are actually pulling off practically infinite combos it made me feel that insect glaive would be viable for crazy speed runs.
Look how the massacred my boy…
Does cotton know about the new game yet?
Quick fix, change the charge attack from [O/B] to [R2/RT]. Charge naturally as we jump.
I feel like it lost its fludity it kinda feels clunky now.
